Let me preface this review by saying that our experience with Poblanos Mexican Grill tonight wasn't the WORST restaurant experience that I have ever had. But it was pretty close.
My wife and I ordered Texas style fajitas for two. My initial impression was that the portion size was very small for two people. It turns out that the portion size WAS very small for two people. It was in fact only a single serving.
After our food was brought out, our server had never stopped by to make sure that the order was correct. They did not bring us any plates. Instead we ended up awkwardly eating our meal over the serving dishes that it arrived on. My wife flagged down our server after they had walked past us without even looking down at our table nearly a dozen times. After determining that our order wasn't correct it took at least 10 more minutes before the waiter came back out to speak with us. Credit where credit is due, the waiter offered to comp our meal, so we did not end up paying for anything. He was also very apologetic over the error. We both walked out disgusted and hungry, though.
The horrible service experience aside, I can't give high marks to the fare either. The tortilla chips that were brought before the meal were very good. Thin and crispy, not overdone at all, but at the bottom of the second basket there was also an american style french fry underneath the chips. The salsa was very thin and watery. Tasted like tomato sauce with finely diced onions and a handful of spices mixed in with it. The quality of the fajitas weren't bad, but they were not at all authentic. The guacamole was pretty good, though.
Overall this was an exceptionally poor experience with a local restaurant that could easily have become a staple for us had...
Read moreI will start by saying that this is the first time I've had a bad experience here. But this was literally the worst bar service I have ever witnessed. I love the food and I have never had a bad experience when getting a table or the handful of other times I've sat at the bar. But tonight was an absolute joke. I walked in and sat down and got chips and salsa and a drink pretty quickly, nothing wrong so far...and then complete and utter radio silence from the staff for the next 30+ minutes. I attempted to catch their attention with no luck until finally one of them was close enough that he could hear me. At which point I was finally able to order and I kindly informed him that I had been sitting there for 30 minutes. He said sorry, took the order and that was it...never asked if I needed anything else, never refilled the salsa that had been sitting empty and in clear view, never asked if I would like another drink...nothing. And it was not just me, the other 2-3 people that were sitting at the bar and were not obvious regulars were also blatantly overlooked as the staff would walk past, chat with the regulars and never even look their way. Thankfully, the food was still delicious as always, and I hate to knock off stars for 1 experience when I've had so many other good ones. I really hope that this was a one time event. But this was so awful that I had to write this review to say that whoever runs their bar should be either properly trained or replaced. I could have actually called in an order and had it prepared and brought to me between the time that I got my drink and the time that I was finally able to place an order. That simply should never happen at a bar that seats less than 20 people and has 3 staff members...
Read moreIf you've been following my reviews for some time, you know when it comes to Mexican restaurants, it's easy to determine whether you're going to have a good experience... One only look at the first thing that you bite into and that's generally chips and salsa... unfortunately at this restaurant the chips were served cold, not warm and the salsa was just mediocre.
We had the fajitas and they were just okay. They could have used a line and some flavoring and seasoning. The fajita taco salad was just okay as well. The chicken was flavorful unlike the fajita chicken and the presentation was nice but there wasn't much flavor besides the chicken. Instead of using diced tomatoes they use a half of a whole tomato. They used a little bit of lettuce, a little bit of cheese and the rest was just peppers and onions... The kids chicken tenders were actually very very good - white juicy quality breast meat with a nice light breading. In my opinion, that was the best thing at the restaurant 🙂
While we won't be coming back, it wasn't a horrible experience either. Hats off to Jose who was single-handedly serving. Literally the entire outdoor patio of at least 10 different tables. Is no easy feat and he did it with pizzazz where other servers couldn't manage four tables at other restaurants. Very impressive! There are so many options in Mexican cuisine, it's easy to find something else that's a little bit better. Also, the price wasn't bad unlike most other Mexican restaurants. It was only 35 for...
