I'm posting this as a 2 star, because I don't believe the current 4.9 scale this place has is deserving of it. The reviews are good, the place is good. None of the service was bad, counter service lady was kind and the atmosphere was very basic.
I believe at best this place in its current form would be around a 3.7 to a 3.9 my goal is to aim it in that direction in general.
I paid 21.50 for a small order of Korean chicken, added the dumplings (preferred tokoyaki but they where out). Dumplings where good, but I thought of them more as fried potstickers.
The sauces were good, the sticky soy sauce was definitely the better one out of the sweet and spicy that I had. The order comes with 1 choice of sauce which I thought was a bit off. For sauce to chicken ratio you get about 3 tablespoons of sauce if you get the soy sauce, about 5 with the sweet and spicy. Is it enough for even a small order? Eh, I wouldn't imagine so. If you want additional sauce it's 1-2 dollars per 3 or 5 tablespoons which is expensive in my mind, especially for a place where the sauce is meant to also be a star component of the dish.
For 21.50 I got the boba tea which was good in general. I was asked if I'd like anything additional, to which I stated no. Apparently that means the boba in boba tea was not added which left me a bit sad in all honesty.
The place is a nice start up. I think these are newer restaurant owners and really a good family group. I love supporting small businesses, but I can't bring myself to come back to this one which ultimately is why I am giving this 2 stars to help level all of these "amazing" reviews I was reading.
For 21.50 for what I got felt underwhelming. I can go to Schaumburg village and tavern, get amazing chicken with a honey mustard sauce, table side service, actual glassware, forks knifes and a nice table and ceramic plates with 1.5 lbs of chicken tenders and 1lb of fries with a cup of vegetables in comparison.
This place is definitely more of a lunch style place than a dinner. Options are limited on the menu. I always root for the small businesses, but I think some change is necessary for this one to thrive. All the best of luck in your...
Read moreWhat I seen on Chicago local television about Smile Korean Chicken, is not what I experienced after visiting their Wood dale location. The Staff was nice and friendly. But very young and not very Good at selling their product. Unable to properly explain their Menu to New Customers. And after ordering what we thought was 12 pieces of Chicken. Turned out to be nothing but 12 chicken nuggets. The owner explained that their chicken is Not whole pieces of chicken but described them as being Chicken Tenders/Chicken Strips. WRONG...just little pieces of dried up chicken nuggets. Wasn't impressed in anyway, shape or form, and will NOT return. So what you see on television isn't always the truth. Sadly again the young ladies we met were very nice and have a great motivation for creating a successful eatery. But we just weren't impressed with the quality of the Food or prices for what we received. And neither of us felt that the chicken was moist and juicy. Actually on the contrary it was quite the opposite. Hard and Dry. Although the Tator Tots were Good. And as far as atmosphere. It is a small cold little Dining area with a television playing some Korean Television Station, with the volume Off, but the In house Radio was Blasting Loud annoying Hip Hop Music to where we could hardly hear each other talking. Not much of a Family atmosphere. Great Motivation on part of young ladies, but just a little too young to understand how to operate a Professional Eatery. I wish I could say the Food was Good. But I'd be lying 🤥 Also the entire 45 minutes we were there, there was Only 1 other customer in the entire Store ordering something for Take-out. Other than that, the place...
Read moreSmile Korean Chicken just opened 5 days ago. I Tried it for the first time tonight. Walking in, I was greeted with a welcoming smile by all of the friendly staff. Decided on the small (16 ounce) Korean chicken combo, which includes fries and tortilla chips. There are several different sauces to choose from and I had the sweet soy and honey garlic, both very tasty and savory. The chicken was fantastic, perfectly cooked, crispy outside and juicy inside...compliments to the chef. Fries were okay. I was surprised it was also served with the round tortilla chips, which are not house made, but complimented well and one of the helpful servers suggested I eat a bite of chips and a bite of chicken at the same time, which actually works out well. There is a complimentary nacho cheese pump in the dining area... so cheese fries for me also. The bathrooms were clean as expected being a new place, and the servers were immediately wiping the tables and floors beneath down as guests exited, just what I expected from an Asian owned business. Did not try the boba tea but there was a good selection available. Being this visit was during the soft opening, my order was doubled so I received another duplicate order that I took to-go 😋 I really enjoyed this dining experience and will definitely be returning to try other items...
