Disappointed. Read about this place in Alabama Back Road Restaurant Guide. Sounded delicious so picked it for a girl's daytrip and also as surprise supper(gift)for my three sister's birthdays. Per the hours in the book lunch is served 11-2 and dinner 4:30 till 7:30. We arrived early at the supper opening time 4:30pm on a Wednesday. Building nothing special and kind of cluttery view from our table looking inside the events side. Serving line area in back of restaurant behind a wall...unorganized and cramped and you also have to walk through there to go to bathrooms which is odd and makes you feel like you may be in a staff only area in my opinion. When we got in the serving line, I saw few maybe five or six pieces of meatloaf, a very small amount of okra and a mix of full pans of one vegetable beside the next maybe half pans or less vegetables. My initial feeling was we were being served leftovers from lunch. Hungry, I decided to keep my thoughts to myself and try to enjoy the food (some whole pans was fresh).Once at the table all three sisters (not knowing) I was buying their suppers, began to complain of hard and cold okra, cold turnip greens and peas that tasted like out of a can, awful tasting creamed corn, and my of serving cold thick chicken casserole (my second meat choice) was very thick and cold as well. One dessert of hot fudge cake and one slice of peanut butter pie that the 4 of us had we planned to share.... for lack of a better word "YUK"! I talked to our waitress at table and in back as I was going to bathroom in detail. I am hard of hearing, but I thought she said Sherry the owner was taking some off the bill. When I got up to the pay counter the only thing, she took off was the two desserts we had ate one bite of, along with that thick cold chicken casserole I took one bite of. Our bill was still 73.00!!! Our plates and the desserts that were cleared from the table during our meal told the same story that matched my complaints had the waitress paid attention. The waitress said she talked to Sherry but after thinking a hour or so I called the restaurant to speak directly to her to make sure she knew and was fully aware of our experience. Sherry was defensive of her food and her establishment. She was rude and unprofessional saying "she took off the serving of casserole and desserts." Argued that her restaurant serves hundreds, and we were only complainer's. Well excuse us North Alabama folks that picked and drove out of our way to your restaurant in hopes of a fresh hot meal and delicious desserts! We were clearly served some leftovers and paid 73.00 to boot for it! Sherry reluctantly agreed to refund my card for the vegetables she actually had me itemize that were cold, then had the nerve to ask if I had been to a grocery store lately. What a rude response to such unsatisfactory meal I told her never mind as she clearly took issue with me trying to let her know we were served cold hard leftovers. After I got home, I looked close at reviews, some good and bad...we definitely had to unfortunately join the unwanted bad experience ones. Advice to the next out of town customers...pick somewhere else (Olive Garden and Red Lobster and Jim and Nicks only short 12 minutes away) or maybe take your chances and go at 11:00 am for hopefully a fresh meal... but think it might change your mind if you do read at least some of the bad reviews. Good Luck! UPDATE- I noticed my bank statement went from 73.00 to a pending credit so I called Sherry to ask if she had adjusted or credited my card. Sherry in hurry, quite rude, defensive, told me took off 20.00 for some vegetables. Stated the book I saw her restaurant in was published 10 yrs ago, and explained that covid undoubtedly is the reason she serves cold hard food???? Sherry did not have time to talk and quickly got off phone...strange conversation... bill is now 50.00, and she also told me I could not get that price at McDonald's. Exhausting experience lol. Go...
Read moreHad a family reunion of about 40 people today in one of the rooms in Sherry's Cafe. We were all impressed with the courtesy of our server; I was told her name is Denise. She was right there with drink refills and bringing out food as it was ready (some items like chicken & chicken livers, fried green tomatoes, etc. were being cooked as ordered). She was efficient and friendly throughout all the craziness of taking care of such a large group.
The food was some of the best meat & 2/3 I've had in the area. Several of the group commented that it was much better than a previous restaurant we had utilized and I personally thought it was as good as anything I could make in my own kitchen. I had the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and cabbage. While I normally only eat dark meat chicken, they only serve white meat chicken, but as it was freshly cooked, it was moist and delicious. I also ordered a fudge pie that was warm and had a fudge topping with whipped cream. Each of the 8 people at my table tasted it and several asked me if I brought it from home because it tasted homemade.
I was privileged to speak to the owner, Sherry, and she is a warm and interesting hostess! I plan to visit with my spouse soon and we will hopefully be able to meet again as a large group here in...
Read moreWe loved it! The food was excellent as was the service! The dining room and the serving area were clean and pleasant. It was so nice to have soft music playing in the background and not loud, screaming noise. The servers and waitstaff were very pleasant and helpful. We will definitely go back. April 20, 2021... The food was pretty good. It was not as good as it was when we were there last month on a week day. I was very disappointed with the green beans! They had put some hot pepper sauce in them and I don't want anything hot; not even with black pepper!! That needs to be added AT THE TABLE! The service was great. My husband's pork chop did not get out until he was almost done eating so they removed it from the bill!! We appreciated that! May ,18 2022 Went for lunch today. The food was excellent and the portions were generous not skimpy. It was not a really busy day so we stayed and chit chatted for a good while. The staff were...
