So... I had heard good things about Avalon Pockets in the past and decided to give them a try for lunch. Brought a gal pal with for the adventure. Was happy to see that they put up a plexiglass shield as a little safety for the pandemic. That was a nice touch. Walking into the storefront smelled amazing, the air was spicy with herbs. Got a vegetarian pita pocket sandwich and a pineapple smoothie. My friend got a strawberry smoothie and an order of fries. The young man at the counter was very sweet and highly attentive. Said it would only take t minutes, so we walked out to chat in the pleasant weather for a bit then came back in. He wasn't kidding, the food was prepared fast. The prices weren't bad either. My gal pal nervously chatted him up for a bit. That was kind of cute and worth the price of admission. We happily returned to our place of employment for our lunch break excited to try something other than subway or a publix sub for once. Well... It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. Really want to give more stars because the service was great. The sandwich was mediocre. The best part of it was the hummus, the veggies were ok not super fresh but not old either. Expected the hummus to have a little more kick, it was rather dull. I could have forgiven this for the price. It wasn't terrible, just wouldn't be writing home to momma about it. The smoothies however were not good. I'm not certain if they are a mix or made of old fruit cocktail or what, but mine had a pungent punchy taste. Which was disappointing because I adore pineapple. Asked my buddy about her drink and food. She didn't like her drink either but said that the fries were ok. I think she was just being polite because she only ate half and sneakily threw the other half away when she thought I wasn't looking. This review saddens me to even write because part of me really wants Avalon Pockets to do well. Lots of businesses have been suffering due to the pandemic. I am hoping that on the bright side that management will take notice and make some necessary changes to turn things around for the better. Your staff is good. Safe measures in place. The food needs some tweaking if you would like to see repeat customers. Don't cut corners. Take those darn smoothies off the menu please and thank you. Spice up the hummus a little bit.
