You can’t talk about this place without talking about the gem of an owner, Bry, who somehow manages to fit into that tiny red food trailer and not be grumpy about it, but rather, make you smile.
As a self-proclaimed foodie, I sought to find the best places to eat in Alamogordo when I found myself here for a week visiting a friend. Anyone who does a Google search will quickly realize there are not many great places to eat in this town. Enter Bry’s Lunchbox to change all that.
This place really fills a need in the community. Everything Bry makes is delicious, hearty, and made with care. I had the opportunity to eat here twice. First time I got the Gyro with loaded potato soup side and my friend got the Greek salad. We got to talk to Bry on that first visit and he said later in the week he’d be making some recipes with green chile that I should try as a tourist, since chile is a very New Mexico thing.
So fast forward- the second time I called ahead and asked if I could have the chile soup that he mentioned he’d be making. I said that’s all I wanted and I’d be there to pick up in a few min. Seconds after I got out of my car he was handing me a packed box. It felt heavier than just soup. He didn’t charge for it, but there was a delicious pesto grilled cheese and turkey sandwich inside. I insisted and left some money for him.
The combination of the flavors of the sandwich dipped in the hearty homemade soup was phenomenal. Not to mention the above and beyond customer service.
I recommend this place to anyone in Alamogordo and also folks visiting White Sands National Park looking to grab lunch either to eat after or before visiting the park or to take to the park for a picnic. It is conveniently located next to Walmart if you need to combine it with running an errand too.
All of the food is nicely packed in a brown cardboard box with utensils.
What he doesn’t tell you is that he likes to try to include a sweet treat for you in your box… a small package of cookies. Well, Bry says he doesn’t advertise this since sometimes they run out of cookies so if someone gets it then it is like a nice surprise. …Maybe I shouldn’t have spoiled it for you!
Anyway the portions and value are great for the price!
All in all…Bry is a super nice guy, seems truly passionate about what he does and has been able to connect with the community here. I know he needs to pay the bills but he truly does not seem in it for the money. He also has a professional culinary background so he’s the real deal.
You should definitely support this business! While I think the food truck aspect of it is special and allows Bry to connect with each customer, I’d love to see this business grow in Alamogordo to a larger brick and mortar location, if Bry decides he wants to expand in...
Read moreIf you’re driving out to White Sands National Park and need to pack breakfast or lunch(box!) to go, stop here and get it! We’re an Austin-based couple on a New Mexico road trip, and stumbled on all these happy customers’ reviews while passing through Alamogordo for a (rainy) day of hiking at White Sands National Park. Bry’s Lunchbox is an all-electric food truck: tiny, red, and travel sticker covered, and when we got lost trying to find it we called the listed number. The chef/owner himself answered: Bryan is a friendly New Mexico local and musician and easily directed us over. He generously accommodated my vegetarian needs, created a meat lover’s breakfast burrito for my husband, and even unexpectedly gifted us an extra sandwich on the house, a fresh and tasty veggie pita wrap with a pasta salad as a box lunch. After our 2.5 hours of hiking, we stopped in one of the park’s picnic areas and enjoyed everything he packed for us. Would love to come back someday and especially try the seasonal gazpacho he described. Thank you Bryan and wishing you plenty of good business! (Everyone be sure to bring him a fun sticker from your hometown for his truck if...
Read moreLast month, my husband and I stopped by Bry's Lunchbox in Alamogordo on our way to White Sands National Park. The reviews we saw were amazing, so we decided to give it a shot. Bryan greeted us with great conversation, sharing his passion for cooking, and also a bit about his growing collection of memorabilia from traveling customers past. I'm mostly vegetarian but my husband is not, and though the menu was meat heavy, Bryan instantly whipped me up something he'd created and named after a former traveling customer. Soon, I was trying The Nora and would recommend that to vegetarians and meat eaters alike. And his soup! Oh my, his soup! It was chicken enchilada that day, and since I don't mind a bit of broth now and then, he offered to dip me out some broth, minus the pieces of chicken. I do that at home but have never had anyone offer that. It was so considerate and shows how important it was to him that we both love our food and feel satisfied, despite what was on the menu that day. The meal was great, as was the conversation. So, stop what you're doing and go there. You won't regret...
