I recently moved to Anchorage from Fairbanks, which is a town known for it’s amazing Thai food, with many many different Thai restaurants to choose from. I felt dubious about finding a Thai food restaurant here, because I didn’t feel that the restaurants here in Anchorage could live up to the standards of excellence set by the multiple Thai restaurants in Fairbanks competing to be the best. My cousin and I were running errands on a Saturday and found ourselves hungry in the vicinity of Lahn Pad Thai. We thought about getting just appetizers at Lahn Pad, and saving our appetite for a dinner later. We came in, and were warmly greeted and seated. We ordered the crab rangoon wontons and a Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee. We became enveloped by the smells and atmosphere, and the menu descriptions and design pulled us further in. He decided to get the beef noodle soup and I got the N-4, spicy level 4 out of 3. The appetizer was surprisingly good, full of flavor and the ingredients tasted so fresh. Our entrees came out fairly quickly, and they looked and smelled incredible. The flavors! The tastes! The textures! It was so unbelievably good, the kind of food that makes you want to almost cry with joy halfway thru the meal. We can’t stop talking about how good it was, how it was healing. Soul food. Can’t wait to go back and try everything...
Read moreLahn Pad Thai has some of the best Thai cuisine I have had. There are many choices on the menu, and if you have a special plate in mind, they have many off menu specialties as well. If you are new to Thai cuisine or have friends or family that isn't wild about it; there are many choices as well. My favorite dish is Pork Panang. This is a spicy dish. A great way to manage the level of heat is to order mild or medium with chili mix on the side. You can ramp it up slowly, and you have control. Panang can be pork, chicken or beef. The sauce has body and tange with highlights of coconut and the heat of the chilies. Thai basil also rounds out the freshness of the dish. A great side beverage is Thai Ice tea. There are spices and sweetness along with cream. The cream can also help control the burn of the chilies if the heat builds up too much. As for atmosphere, the restaurant is on the smaller side. This feels cozy and comfortable to me. It is common to see patrons individually, as couples or groups of four. I have seen a party of ten, but they arrived early and were lucky to be seated together. Delivery isn't offered, but phone orders and pickup are common. This is a family run business and its evident that they love what they do. Give it a chance, you'll be...
Read moreI decided on this place due to the fact Thai Orchid was closed. I realize the reviews were mostly from years past but still did it against my better judgement! The reviews were promising however it fell extremely short.
I ordered pad zee ew, Kang Karie, Drunken Noodles, sidewalk noodles, sweet and sour w chicken. A few dishes tasted fishy although they were all chicken dishes. I realize they may add fish sauce but this went to the extreme.
Kang Kurie was grayish and chicken was odd looking ( color, size ) but it tasted good enough.
Pad zee ew was EW..it was dry, noodles mushy and clumped together, little fishy.. Ate some and was done.
Drunken noodles, more like gotta be drunk to eat noodles..it smelt like the fish isle in Petco.. It smelled fishy and tasted fishy, hard to get past that taste.. Took one bite and was done
Sidewalk noodles, saucy and looked great, tasted good too, fully eaten
Sweet and sour was just OK, no one ate it after a...
