WARNING: This is NOT Mexican/American food, if that’s your thing, that’s fine, but you may not like this.
It’s worth noting the owner said she has owned the restaurant for 52 years!! Let’s go support her!! Her kids used to work at the restaurant all through high school, but now they’re grown with their own families. She told me she had a new grandchild born TODAY, bringing the total to 8 and 1 great grandchild.
My husband and I just had lunch at Mexico in Alaska. WOW! 🤩 It was a wonderful experience.
We ordered Taco De Carne and Sopa De Pollo(chicken soup).
They also do a lunch buffet 12-3pm for $19 that had grilled chicken, tortillas, fried chicken, zucchini, mole, rice, burritos, beans and all the toppings(lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, salsas, onions etc.) 🌮 🍗 🍅 🧅 🧀 🌯 🫘 🥬 People around us were getting the buffet, but we ordered off the menu. I guess it changes up and they sometimes have steak.
Before we got our food the owner came to our table and asked how everything was. I told her it was our first time in and that the waitress let us taste the verde salsa I had heard about online. She pointed out that some comes with the carne asada tacos my husband ordered too. She asked if we had ever tried mole before and I said once and the one I tried wasn’t good. She explained to me how they make their mole, all the ingredients, and insisted we try some. She brought out 2 mole cheese enchiladas on the house for my husband and I to try. She changed my mind on mole. Theirs is DELICIOUS! My husband practically licked his mole plate clean! She explained that their food is how they eat it at home, very authentic and simple.
My soup that was recommended by a patron sitting at a table near us, who said he’s been eating at the restaurant for over 40 years, I would definitely order again. My husband loved his carne asada tacos, but will ask for corn...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I constantly try new places to eat, tonight we were feeling Mexican. As I browsed through Doordash looking at all the amazing Mexican restaurants in Anchorage we realized we haven't tried Mexico in Alaska. We ordered our carne asada tacos (a staple for most Mexican restaurants) and waited. About 20 minutes past and the doorbell rang, our food was here, we sat down opened up the food and was quickly disappointed. They claimed it was 3 tacos but you only get enough meat for 2. The shredded lettuce has that 6-day-old shredded, packaged, and stocked by a grocer taste. There's no cheese or sauce to add flavor, and speaking of flavor the carne asada has none. The tomatoes are old and the 3 leaves of cilantro delicately places on top is barely enough to mask the other rotten flavors. Overwhelmed with disappointment now, we opened the salsa (both Verde and roja) and wow. Instead of helping build a flavor profile they leave your pallet wondering if you've just eaten food that has been exposed to cleaning chemicals as the roja tastes like Dawn dish soap. The verde on the other hand is nothing but hot vinegar.
I was originally going to give the restaurant 2 stars because I have not been inside the restaurant itself and atmosphere adds some points to the table. However I am forced to give it 1 star because the both of us have instead chosen not to finish eating our food and order from...
Read moreMy husband and I ate here and we both got sick. We will never be going back. The chips are already on the tables meaning they are very stale. Our friends arrived and I went toward the door to greet them and the hostess cut me off and was demanding to know why I was leaving. I had to ask two different people before I was able to get the booster seats for our friends kids. The food is expensive especially when the plate comes out and you see your tiny portions. The beans and rice are on a different plate than your food. So you have all these plates on a small table. We asked for hot sauce and they kept bringing us more salsa. They also do not have margaritas. They did not say the plates are hot either when they brought out the food. What kind of Mexican place is this? A...
