When I checked into the Super 8 across the street, I couldn't quite believe what I saw. Finally, when curiosity could not be contained any further, I walked in. Immediately, a greeting is called out in what I assume is Japanese and a small lady with a kind smile appears out of nowhere to seat me. I am left to review the menu and it appears small at first but offers a wide variety. I finally settle on ordering some curry ramen with a spicy tuna roll on the side. As I wait for my food, I start to take in the surroundings. It's a weekday, early afternoon and expectedly quiet. The seating is ample though so I wonder about the evening crowd. There is a small bookcase near the entry filled with manga, spilling up onto the counter above it. While I am not quite brave enough to get up to survey the titles, knowing the length of the restaurant's namesake anime, would not be surprised if they are the Naruto and Naruto Shippuden series. More demanding of the attention though are the two flat screen TVs hung from the ceiling, one is playing anime from the 90s and the other personality gameshows (both muted). Music plays over head, I recognize a few from the Naruto anime's openings and endings. Just as I am beginning to make sense of the 'boy band showing off their art skills' show, the sushi arrives and a refill of my water. I enjoy my roll (the boy band is now performing their music -- still muted) and find that while the sushi is fresh and delicious, I will not write home about it. But the next course! Oh the next course. I knew portions would not be a problem, but was still daunted by the size of that bowl with the aroma of heaven coming off of it. I dug in. Oh the soft noodles, the flavorful green onion, the tasty egg, the crispy bean sprouts and the crown jewel: the rich broth. I will write home about this. I will come again tomorrow, I will have pork katsu on the side. I will find the pork katsu to be perfectly crispy with a savory sauce drizzled over it. I will miss this place when i have to go back to Tacoma. But I will tell my friends and my family, and I will come back. And when I thought that I have had all I could have, then came a dessert. A small portion of custard with honey and a granola mix typing. Delightfully sweet and easy in the bursting...
Read moreThe first time I had a problem is when I wanted to order just curry and rice with no meat for my kids over the phone. I had been in a few times before and once order just curry and rice and I was charged for each item individually which wasn't a big deal. Well when I tried to call in and order curry and rice they told me they couldn't make it for me. I mentioned that I had done it before and he told me he knew who I was, it was the same guy that's always there and had done it for us before, and he told me it was a one time thing and he wouldn't do it again. So I ask to pay for the meal with meat and for them to just leave the meat off. He wouldn't allow me to just buy it and leave the meat off even though the meat is cooked separately. And I wasn't asking for it to be discounted without the meat I just wanted them to take the meat out because we don't eat meat. They didn't even want to put the meat in a different container so that the meat wouldn't touch my kids food.
Then I went on my birthday last week. Ordered the Curry Udon noodles which is a meatless entree (one of the few) and they put beef in it. When I brought it to their attention they took my food away and left me sitting there with no food for the rest of the meal. At the end of each meal they bring out complimentary custard. Everyone around us received the custard, even the table behind us which they made a point of telling them it was free because at first the refused it got custard. When I asked if we weren't receiving any custard after waiting a long time they brought us 2 custards instead of the 3 we were suppose to receive.
I am the type of person that I don't post a review after one experience because I like to get a feel for a place, but I have been to this place more than once and have received bad service more than once. I'm not sure why my family has been treated this way since people give this place such good reviews but I was very dissatisfied with the...
Read moreI used to come here all of the time, ever since they opened, at least once every two weeks! However, after an incident that happened a few months ago, I just can't justify giving them my business.
Over the summer, my husband and I stopped in for lunch. I ordered my usual tonkatsu ramen- I've had it there at least fifty times and it was my favorite. The broth this time, however, was off. Not just a little bit off but very much so; It was almost as though it were freezer burned or an ingredient had spoiled.
I brought this to the attention of the waiter (a teenaged boy) and he argued with me before going and getting another sample of the broth for me to try, saying it was "different". No, it was the same batch, still tasted off. I was polite the entire time, because there isn't ever any sense in being rude. I told him I wouldn't be eating the ramen and that I'd like a refund, please. He reluctantly agreed.
When I went to pay my bill, the ramen was still on there. I told him that he had agreed to take it off and that I would not be paying for it. He printed me out a new receipt, correct this time, and I signed it before leaving Naruto.
When I looked at my bank statement, lo and behold, the full amount had been charged to my card and then some; the punk had given himself even more of a tip on top of re-entering the numbers! He must have just suspended the first transaction, printed the second, but ran it as the first after voiding the corrected bill.
I left a message for the manager to contact me, but I've never heard back. I won't be returning, which is a shame because it was my favorite...
