I had high hopes for Salsa Oaxaqueña. Unfortunately, I was let down. The place is obviously just starting up, so I don't want to be harsh. But, there were just so many red flags that they weren't ready to open just yet. First, the menu was written on a piece of scrap paper and had unpriced items. We thought we were paying $12 for chicken floutas when we ended up paying $18 (that $6 per flouta!). On top of that, the chicken was dry and flavorless. Second, the prices in general were high. $28 for enchiladas... I know we live in Alaska, but I can go to another local place and get enchiladas for $20. Third, everything we ordered was microwaved. My wife ordered a tamale that was rubbery and burnt on the edges, and my tacos fell apart in my hand. Both are tell tale signs of microwave food, not to mention the beeping from the microwave we heard as more people ordered food. My carne asada was flavorless, and I made the mistake of assuming the chicharron was fried, but it was boiled, so for me, texture wise, I couldn't eat it. Service was also a bit sketchy. It seems they don't have all of their items entered into the POS. She charged us for a burrito instead of floutas, and they charged us for a lengua taco instead of a chicharron taco. This place does not seem ready for business, with menus and POS that do not align, the microwaves, and the price points. Local business is important, so I hope they can get...
Read moreEaten at Salsa Oaxaqueña two separate times now and have been impressed both times! You can tell everything is made by hand and with a lot of care. The tortillas are obviously homemade and delicious! And the mole!! It's incredibly good. It's so nice to find traditional mole that doesn't taste like a Hershey bar.
The menu was still being developed while I was there but my party of 5 and I loved everything we ordered. The prices are a little high compared to other places in town, but you're definitely paying for quality. Many ingredients are imported just for specific dishes. Actual Oaxacan cheese on my quesidilla! Did not expect that in Anchorage.
Lovely staff with incredibly accommodating service! Went on Friday night and got to enjoy some live music as well (it was a little loud for me but fun).
My family and I will be back soon to try everything else...

Having spent a good deal of time in Mexico, I’m usually disappointed by “Mexican food” in the states. But this place is the real deal. We walked in and were immediately were immediately transported to Mexico. From the music playing, to the Virgen de Guadalupe on the wall and the aroma of homemade tortillas, grilling meat and mole. This place is not just pretending to be Mexican. It was like traveling to Oaxaca without getting on an airplane. We had and order of spicy chicken mole and tacos de carne asada on homemade tortillas. There were multiple types of amazing salsa on the salsa bar. We will be back! Hope you give it a try and support this lovely new business in town. They have only been open for a few months, they are doing...
