Sparta Pizza — Restaurant in Alaska

DO NOT order from this place, worst customer service! The delivery driver handed me a receipt to sign and I handed him a $5 tip. He then handed me my food and a receipt. He started to walk way and I said, “Where is my 2 liter of soda?” He looked and me and told me I didn’t order soda and I showed him my receipt, which clearly showed soda. He continued to argue and then finally said it was to far to go back and get it. I told him I didn’t appreciate him arguing with me and I wanted the $5 back. Then continued to argue and never once told me I’m sorry. I finally got the $5 back. I called the restaurant and the guy on the phone was not pleasant at all. After telling him what happened 3 times I was annoyed. Finally he puts me on hold and comes back and said the manager will refund me $3.50 for the soda I didn’t receive. He told me I needed to give him my credit card number so he could do a refund. I started reading him the numbers and was half way through and I paused because the phone was silent and he didn’t acknowledge that I was giving him the numbers. He said “come on continue.” At that point I told him not to worry about the refund, and I will never ordered from this restaurant again! Worst customer...

July 26 2019: had family surprise me with a calzone from guess where. I am told it is the Sparta. Suffice to say, for brevity, everything below holds. I don't think i will ever accept a calzone from anywhere else.

Feb 2019: I have been wanting to try this place since i saw them set up on Dimond and old Seward. Holy cows and nails i put it off too long. I need to kiss the chef. First of all, food arrived 30 minutes earlier than quoted. Caught me off guard. Not bad. Second, they know how a calzone should be. Period. It was warm, the bread was soft and delicious. It was also not comprised entirely of bread. I would have posted a picture, but i ignored their warning of included cutlery and went in unarmed. There was no going back. I promise it was mostly fillings and not junky fillings. I'm filled up with food i could taste and enjoyed. There were more than 2 eyes on my food, so setting it down was out of the question. It was not soggy, it was scoured and sealed properly. This is the first time in my life i have truly eaten a calzone. I know what a calzone should be and i am doomed with this dark blessing. Placed an order for delivery at 8:30pm on a Thursday night. I was informed the order will take an hour, which I wouldn’t have minded if it had been delivered hot.

I ordered two Phillys & a large pizza. They were lukewarm at best.

Secondly, if living in jersey & outside of Philadelphia has taught me anything, it’s when you say you want a philly, you get meat and cheese. Onions & green peppers SHOULD be asked for but depending on the restaurant it’s already added. Although, receiving the phillys to find that lettuce & sliced tomatoes were on it, I was not only angry but also dumbfounded why anyone would think that was ok, let alone actually order it that way.

When I first got back to anchorage & a friend took me here for the first time I used to say Sparta had the best philly in town. As of last night, that card has been revoked & needless to say, I won’t be ordering from here...
