1st and foremost, I have an extreme sensitivity to pork.
My children and I went out to eat immediately after school because I hadn’t eaten all day working. So, after viewing the menu online, and I seen on the menus when we got there that the macaroni and cheese was served with pork.
My children (9 & 11) knowing my sensitivity, we all 3 asked if there was another option for Mac & cheese, WITH NO PORK!!! The bartender/waitress told us YES, they can make it with absolutely no pork, but with chicken instead. So we ordered it to share.
As she was ringing our order in, directly after we ordered I literally yelled across the restaurant ‘MAKE SURE THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PORK IN ANY OF THE FOOD”! She said yep, got it…
I cannot make this up!!!
she then had the food served to us by another waitress, and the MAC & cheese was LOADED with chicken, so I split it in 3 and I began to scarfed it down… then aftera few bites my daughter (9 years old) says “dad what’s this”, and as she held up a portion of her Mac & Cheese the cook brings me my sauces (instead of the waitress), and he said “That’s bacon” … we froze in utter disbelief!!!
… I said WHAT! This is supposed to be NO PORK!
He said “that’s impossible, we cook the Mac & cheese directly in the bacon grease”. 😳😡🤬
I said WHAT!!!! I ate this food and I have av VERY high intolerance to pork!!! He then realized the seriousness… At 1st he tried to make excuses for the waitress and I said ‘’’’’NO PORK’’’’’ and pointed at the huge piece of dam near RAW bacon on my daughters plate from her portion of the Mac & Cheese!!!
he went and checked with the waitress and she rung it up as chicken WITH PORK!!!! Where he ground bacon directly into the meal!
He asked to do a make up meal, so I chose another off the menu. But I started getting sick almost immediately!!! The feeling is similar to when you drink too much alcohol and you throw up, but then when you get to the stomach acid part and you feel dizzy & woozie! It is the most HORRIBLE feeling!! Especially when you expected good food!!!!!
I had ate on a completely empty stomach, so I had immediately gotten sick within 15 minutes after this and I threw up in my hands on the way to the bathroom and for about 20 minutes 2 times all together! I then realized this wasn’t going to stop, so I had them package my food and they gave my daughters a dessert and we left the macaroni and left without paying…
I almost ran out the door and gave my daughters the keys to my truck and I ran to the bushes in the parking lot and threw up again for 15 + minutes, dry heaving and vomiting my guts out. HOW FREAKING EMBARRASSING having all those people stare at me driving by!!!!
My daughters called their mother to come get them (we are divorced and it was my time with them) thankfully she works very close by so she was there RIGHT away! so I went to drive home but then kept pulling over vomiting, so called urgent care… they had me talk to poison control, and poison control said since I had a extremely high sensitivity to pork I was most likely experiencing toxicity shock food poisoning! And that I was going to have to ride it out!
I missed work tonight from this, and it caused me to have extreme pain in my gut, throat, back, head, neck disabling me… (i have thrown up once while writing)
I feel extremely violated and want them to pay for what they made us go through! And what I will have to experience in recovery!!!!! As if a free meal makes up for such a HORRIBLE experience!!!! That is NOT a “mistake”!!!! That woman VIOLATED me!!! And a RUINED my time with my children and my weekend!!! As I will have to recover now!!!
I am pursuing legal guidance for what was done to me!
That waitress should be put on leave for what she did if not fired!
Be VERY VERY careful with nonchalant waitresses and waiters that do NOT take your handicaps and food allergies serious!!! If it doesn’t affect them then they will keep doing it to others! And I am going to pursue consultation in my best next steps to have recompense! I gave her TO many chances to do...
Read moreI'll start off with I hate writing reviews like this. I love supporting small businesses and I have been a bartender/server for 13 years now. We had a previous experience here that was amazing and we were really looking forward to coming back! We arrived at 1:08pm on Sunday and my husband went in to request a patio table and let the staff know that we had our dog with. They told us pets were not allowed on their patio. We respected that and decided that we would park next to the patio and sit at a table closest to our car so our dog was near us and we could make sure he was comfortable. We planned to be quick, anyway, as they close at 2pm. I went back in to meet the rest of our party while my husband waited in the car with our dog and toddler. I immediately noticed the hostility, I wasn't greeted..in fact they were all (3 employees) acting like they didn't see me walk in. We asked to be seated on the patio and they said "The bees are bad, you don't want to sit out there" I explained that we wanted to be out there to keep an eye on our dog and they said again "The bees are really bad" I could tell they didn't want us out on the patio, let alone even at the restaurant at all. There was no hospitality, not even a smile. Our server was kind and made our experience a little better. We only saw one bee before our food arrived. We were not bothered by bees at all after that. The food was amazing, although, mine was messed up. I would usually have no problem politely bringing it up, however with the hostility we had already recieved and out of respect that the kitchen would soon be closing, I said nothing and didn't eat much. Now for the reason I'm truly upset. My husband has a gluten allergy. He ordered gluten free bread and explained his allergy. He had a gluten attack after eating here. It wasn't from anything else as I made breakfast and dinner at home and we don't have gluten in our household. I'm so understanding when mistakes are made in the restaurant industry but I can't understand this one. We made it clear. Everytime I have had a customer with any allergy, it is clearly rang up in capital letters for the kitchen to see. Then I go talk to them about it to make absolutely sure they do not overlook it. I can't say why this mistake was made or say that it was or wasn't intentional but one thing I would reccomended for sure, is to not go to this restaurant around 1pm on a Sunday. They don't...
Read moreLet me start by saying we stumbled upon this place unintentionally. We live over an hour away and were headed to another restaurant, only to find it so busy you couldn't even park your car. After searching highly rated places nearby, we wound up here. Pulling in to more ample parking, I feared we might go 2 for 2 when every table on the patio was sat at. Thankfully, there were a few tables open inside.
First impressions were that of a cafe bistro vibe, with one of those pass through windows to the kitchen, tvs mounted in the corners, and a bar on the other end in what was walled off enough to feel like another room.
The menu isn't huge, but it's clear they know what they're doing with it, and they feature a whiteboard over the kitchen window with the handwritten specials. We were in the mood for burgers anyway, and they did not disappoint.
I had the wild mushroom and gruyere burger with the apple slaw. One of my sons got the same burger, while the other had their traditional, what they call the H&H, both with fries. They offer various aiolis for dipping, and we chose garlic.
The slaw was fantastic. Cool, crisp, and flavorful. The burger was the real treat though, with just a hint of pink, and balanced flavors that weren't overpowering my pallete or one another. The fries were also pretty decent from the few I poached as a dad tax.
They have a few classier dishes as can be seen on their signature menu, so this spot can definitely suit for a date night. I asked the waitress what she recommended I try next time, and she suggested the walleye. I will definitely be making a trip back for it at some point.
Overall, I'd say this restaurant ticks the right boxes. If you're looking for white linen tablecloths or $10 entrées, then it isn't for you, but if you want a place that's fit for both a casual date or a family dinner with exquisite cuisine, I think you'll...
