My sister wanted to go here because she had a hankering for their chai. Chai was good. It's pre-made with soy or milk, so there are no other options.
She also had the quinoa breakfast soup (I'm currently spacing out on what it's really called) with almond milk, and she was pretty underwhelmed. I tried it and didn't care for it either, at one point she pulled up a small green pod and asked what it was, I wasn't sure. I'm sure it's healthy and wonderful, but she said quietly she didn't like it after eating it.
I ordered the falafel wrap, which was pretty dry. The counter person asked if feta was okay, I said sure, but I don't think there was any feta in it. I was excited about the fries with house-made ketchup, but it tasted like Chilled Red Sauce, no tomato-y flavor. I'm sure it feels good to some people to have ketchup without any sugar (or any other flavoring as far as I can tell). I don't want to feel like I'm stoically eating something because I'm enlightened, or the food itself is enlightening me. I think it is enlightening to eat delicious food when you are hungry.
We couldn't finish, and really don't like wasting food, but I couldn't imagine eating it later, when it presumably would be less good. I should mention that my sister is mainly vegan, she's a great candidate for a place like this. Me, I'm okay with having some feta thrown in my sandwich (or not), and I'm happy if you can get a breakfast porridge with almond milk and agave, it doesn't have to be quinoa made like oatmeal because that's better (maybe just different, and not quite as good?)
I watched a server clear plates, but not wipe the tables, so you could see that they weren't really clean. The first table I sat at was so wobbly, I moved because I thought it would be a challenge to eat on it. The server didn't look in my direction or say anything as I shook it a few times, no kidding it must have had a 5 degree or more tilt side to side.
The people there, workers and customers, seemed nice and interesting. I'd love to come in here casually dressed, looking and feeling like a spiritual warrior, but I felt a little silly. There are very few spiritual warriors who can afford a $3.95 chai and a $9.95 falafel wrap. I am thinking about going back and getting a grilled cheese with tomatoes, onions, and green chile, because that sounds like heaven. I am concerned that the gluten-free bread will be the main actor, with the other things playing...
Read moreI was A regular here I went Just about everyday and sat in many times. So you’d think they would learn and build bonds with their customers but the last time I went In to order they were a little busy and I came In and ordered my regular know one ever remembered me which ok, but after I out In my order I sat at a table and waited about 30 minutes no one called my number or came to check on me. I went Up to the front again and asked about my order apparently no one put the order in so they apologized and told me they would put a rush on it. I went And sat again and waited.. a hour pasted and people were coming in and out and people were getting orders around me but still mine hadn’t been brought out to me. This particular day the owner was in the restaurant and it was the first time I had Seen her in person she did not greet me or acknowledge me. Another 45 minutes had passed and I was Getting frustrated I’d been there a very long time went to check on my food twice and still nothing no one came to check on me or anything and the owner walked passed me twice no one noticed a customer sitting there for over an hour with no food. I went Up a final time and was very upset and when I went Up this time they acted as if know one knew what I was Talking about they didn’t even have my order written down that’s when the owner finally “saw” me and then “took action” and I guess Told the kitchen to make my food and when I told Them I had Been there for almost two hours waiting on an order they apologized and offered me something from their bakery which the bakery I now No is no good those pastries sit there for very long periods of times they aren’t made fresh daily at least not the ones I had And remember I was A regular I only saw them bring a new pie out once. But nevertheless I took A cupcake and a cookie (I wouldnt Recommend anything from the bakery the cookies very grainy and the cupcake was dry my husband bought a pie slice before and he was disappointed as well) and was finally presented my order and there were no utensils in there I had To ask and napkins and after all that the owner never addressed me or apologized for the wait or inconvenience. I have A feeling it was because I was A black woman. I havent Been back since. Very disappointed at how you’d treat people who support...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I both got food poisoning here last night. We were feeling great until I got the North Indian Sampler platter, including three dishes and only one chapatti, and he got the veggie burger and masala fries. For my platter, the saag paneer dish was rotten. When I told the server, she just said that the cooks would be throwing it all out soon anyway because it was almost closing time. She did not offer to refund my money. The other two dishes were so over-spiced that I couldn't eat them. The platter was supposed to be "vata-pitta balancing" - in other words, it was supposed to be grounding and cooling to the digestion. The remaining, non-rotten food was actually so spicy and acidic that I lost my appetite after a couple of bites, and the whole meal had hardly any protein and was very ungrounding. I had paid for medicinal food and it had the opposite effects. I eventually gave up forcing myself to eat it. As soon as I left, my stomach started to hurt. For the last 24 hours I have had diarrhea, horrible gas, and an upset stomach. My boyfriend also got sick from the veggie burger. He said it was tasted terrible. They had him pay extra for cheese, which they then forgot. There was dirt on his lettuce, and he also got an upset stomach and diarrhea. We are on a road trip across the country, so this sucks. Our friend liked her food, but had also had toilet trouble in the morning. The hot water machine wasn't working, so there were no hot drinks available. (Could they not heat water in a pot to serve tea in this "chai house"?) The atmosphere was nice, except that the two servers there acted like they were irritated to see us. I think fireballs were actually shooting from the girl's eyes. Everything was very expensive, considering the portion sizes, food quality, and the fact that you order at a counter. And, I don't care if it's all organic if it's going to give us food poisoning! This has slowed down our trip so now I have had to pay for medicine and an extra night in a motel. Tomorrow I am camping and attending a retreat and worried about that. My friend says that at their Santa Fe location, the owner is very good and oversees everything. I suggest the owner go down to Albuquerque and find out why the food is so bad and make sure no one else gets...
