Arrived at 5:17 pm and was greeted at the door, asked to find my own seat. At approximately 5:25pm a server arrived and asked me if I wanted a drink. I ordered an appetizer, the gyoza, wok garlic bell pepper for the main, and a fried banana for dessert.
There were hardly any diners at 5:27 pm. I would say this is the best time to arrive as service is prompt and ready.
At 5:30 I received the appetizer and the water. The gyoza was hot. Perhaps a little too hot. The chicken gyoza is definitely cooked in a deep fryer as the texture of the egg flour wrap has bubbles. It is not steamed. The edges of the wrap are crispy and the internals are soft. The lettuce inside is crisp. Overall taste is almost exceptional. The chicken is most definitely salted. The sauce with the gyoza is perfect, don't change a thing.
The water glass had water spots on them however the water did not taste like tap. The ice is clear and so is the mug I was handed. No issues there. The glassug had signs of use but is not a big deal to me.
The server is a bit shy. I'm fine with that.
At 5:39 pm I received the wok garlic bell pepper. The food arrived hot. Though garlic is in the name I could not taste as much garlic in the meat or the bell peppers. I believe the garlic is mostly in the broth. The white rice came out hot and was slightly sticky. It holds it shape well enough and is not wet. I believe this rice is perfect. Trying some more spice on the dish changes the taste too much so I do not recommend adding more spice to the mild variant of the garlic bell pepper wok. I can taste the bell peppers and the broccoli, they are crispy on the edges yet soft inside. I loved it. The beef is what I chose and it melts in with the recipe seamlessly.
By 5:56 pm I had finished the main course and waited dessert. By 5:58 pm dessert had arrived. From start to finish around 30 minutes had passed. Ample time for everything.
The fries banana and ice cream arrived with the banana slices wrapped in a thin layer of egg flour and thin slices of banana inside. Once again it was definitely deep fried instead of baked. I must say the wrap with the friend banana slices amplifies the taste. Caramel around the ice cream is a perfect touch. Bravo. I like this version of the friend banana and ice cream. By 6:04 pm I had finished everything and paid for the meal. Definitely worth coming here.
The atmosphere is something I miss from restaurants: lush greenery. Though it is false greenery it still changes the vibe from a cafeteria to something different. I like this setting with the flowers and indoor fences. The decisions for the artwork keeps the focus on the...
Read moreLets start with the point that I love all Asian food with a passion. I will go to every restaurant in a city until I find the best ones with the best flavors. I went here due to it's proximity to work and because my coworkers all went here regularly.
It was pretty dusty inside. There are thousands of the usual decorations you find in most of these restaurants, but the ones here were covered in layers of dust and cobwebs and shared no theme. The ceiling tiles were likely dropping dust into the food below. But it was a kitchy atmosphere and I like a little gaudy here and there. One extra star for atmosphere.
I ordered the spring rolls (with shrimp) and papaya salad. The spring rolls tasted pretty good. Spring rolls are easy to make. You just roll the proper ingredients into rice paper, provide some peanut sauce (and sometimes sriracha or red chili sauce) to dip it in and you're done. Very good. Add a star.
Service was fine. Nothing special. They serve a lot of people from the base and they weren't un-polite, but were pretty expressionless. Service was average.
Then I was served the "papaya salad". I've had it many times in the past at multiple other locations (in SE Asia as well) and it's hard to make it taste bad. Papaya salad is described as "a very healthy dish" and "crispy, spicy, sweet, salty, and sour". The papaya should be crisp with a light flavor of fish sauce, palm sugar and lime juice, tomato and fresh thai peppers, garlic and a little MSG then serve with a little sticky rice and maybe some crispy pork rinds or raw cabbage. Fresh. It's salad after all. Easy. It's been pretty much the same dish nearly everywhere I've been.
What I was served at Eat Mai Thai looked like it was sitting in a jar in a fridge for weeks. It was dark and smothered in some kind of metallic tasting sauce. It didn't even resemble a papaya salad. It was like a sad and muddy already half-digested coleslaw. It kind of looked like they made it then saw I wanted it "extra spicy" and stuck a bunch of chili paste in it afterward. There was no love or care put into this dish. I know it's lunch time, but if I'm in a restaurant, I expect the food to take a little longer. I didn't pull up to a drive-through window. Just take your time and make it right.
I'll drive another 1/2 mile at lunch and wait another 10 minutes...
Read moreEDIT: The description of the lady seemed to be of latinX or native american. She worked around 6PM when I picked up my order on June 30 and June 29.
Holy crud. I cannot believe the service I have gotten. Ive come here so many times in the past to pick up food no problem. They hired a new woman and the day prior she gave me my order no problem minus the lack of customer service.
Today she gave my order to the WRONG person, I asked her what can be done because I showed her my confirmation email and she pretty much told me to kick rocks and contact door dash which the number wasnt even working. I told her that and she still told me to kick rocks.
I left frustrated and saw another lady walk in with a bag of food and as I was about to leave and the lady ran out to give me that bag of food.
Way to go on giving me UNSANITARY FOOD. I was so angry I left instead of pushing the issue further and didnt even eat the food.
I would have had to call my bank for a fraudulent charge.
So angry because now I’m not coming back here and the location was...
