Edit: Iâve given them another shot because family was in town and wanted upscale mocaljete. Our experience the second time was quite a bit better than the first, though we ordered different plates. The seafood mocaljete was delicious, and every bite was bursting with flavor; it also had a great presentation. I ordered garlic shrimp and it was pretty good. We also ordered the steak chimichurri bowl and the meat was quite tasty. Of course, the guacamole was still fabulous.
The drinks were, again, too sweet and very strong. I do appreciate that I can get a tall frosty mug of Modelo Negra on draft, though.
It seemed somehow even louder than the first time I went. We couldnât hear anything we said to each other so we moved to a lower tier.
As for the ownerâs comment of arrachera, I believe different regions of MX have different marinades, but the cut is still typically juicy. The cut I got last time was about 1/4â thick; skirt steak typically ranges from 1/2â to 1â thick. I was spoiled in MX since the ones I ordered there were on the thicker side of 1â. ââ I was eager to try this restaurant after seeing the rave reviews, but it fell short of my expectations. Iâve spent a fair amount of time in Guerrero, MX, and when I saw Steak Arrachera on the menu, I knew I had to try it. While they got the flavor profile similar, the cut itself was flimsy, like they shaved it off the actual skirt steak itself. I would have gladly paid more money for a real steak arrachera, but would point folks in the direction of Ex Novo downtownâs steak churrasco if they would like to try something closer to a thicker arrachera.
My fiancé ordered the mahi mahi ceviche and it was also just okay. It had too much lime juice which overwhelmed the rest of the dish.
The drinks looked good, but sadly they also fell short. They were a bit too sweet and this is nit picky, but they were way too strong. My fiancé took three sips and was buzzed.
What we did like was the guacamole, the herbed rice, and the grilled vegetables. Maybe we caught them on an off night, but I can think of several other places I would...
Read moreThe service is awful. We have been twice and both times the service was poor. First time it took us almost 45 min to get our table past our reservation time. The service was slow but it was a newer place so we were understanding and patient. The food was hit and miss, some plates were good, others were lacking. Went back a second time a few months later to give it another chance. We were sat pretty close to the reservation time but they sat us at a table for 8 when the reservation was for 10 people. Then there tried to fix it by putting us at 2 tables of 6đ€Šââïž. Our server was awful, slow, didn't listen, it took us almost 3 hours to finish and leave because the service was so slow. We waited over 30 minutes for our drinks, our table had nothing on it. No chips and salsa, no water, nothing. Then when our drinks finally came half of them were wrong or missing. This continued throughout the night. It took 30 minutes any time we placed an order for drinks, appetizers, food and things came out consistently wrong. Once we got our food it was pretty good, some of it was cold or missing things but mostly good. At the end of the night everyone's bill was wrong, even though we told her that we were splitting and we all ordered as couples one by one, made it very easy, it was still wrong and took forever to get fixed! Not sure we will be back. Maybe try it on a week day, or during the day but this place cannot handle busy weekend evenings. The ambiance is nice and service sitting at the bar is good. We actually left our table and went to get drinks at the bar multiple times because our table service was so bad. What was more frustrating is that the server never apologized once for the delays or her many mistakes and didn't really seem to care or...
Read moreI was passing through town and wanted Mexican food, so I decided to stop here. I was seated right away at a 2-person table which was really close to the one next to me. It took a while before someone came and asked what I wanted. I ordered the enchilada verde. When it arrived, it bordered on being cold. It was also very dry with the cook being extremely stingy with the verde sauce. The two enchiladas were about 6â long which, for about $16 seems like a complete ripoff. Iâm more than willing to pay for good food but this just wasnât. When I finally caught the serverâs eye and she came to my table, I explained that the dish was really dry and asked for a small cup of the verde sauce, along with more salsa for the chips. What I got was two cups of the salsa and no verde sauce. I asked to speak with a manager and I explained the situation. The manager was very accommodating and she had the server bring me a whole new plate-free of charge. Great! But I still had the same issue, in that the food was cold and there wasnât enough verde sauce. I asked the server for more, which she did bring. By this time, most of the people around me had been seated, served and left after eating their meals while I still sat there with cold food. I gave up trying to get things fixed and just asked for the check. I did notice that my dinner had been removed from the check and I was only charged almost $18 for a âlargeâ margarita.
I usually enjoy stopping in a different city as I travel for an occasional dinner out, but tonightâs dinner was just...
