Food was good, Katy our server was not. Drink and food arrived as normal but when our food arrived we were more than half empty on our drinks and drinks were not topped off. Half way through the meal we were both completely out of drink. We waited for Katy to come and refill our drinks but it never happened. She walked by and looked at our table while we had nothing in our cups but never came to ask us for refill. At least 8-10 minutes passed by and she finally came to our table to ask if we wanted refills or if she can take our plates. We said yes to the refill and asked for our ticket. Instead of getting our refill, she went off and started doing other work behind the counter. At this point my husband got up and left and and did not finish his meal. Katy argued with me stating that our drinks were half full when she brought our food, blaming us that we ate too fast and it’s not her fault that we ate too fast so that is why we didn’t get refills. Store was not busy, 2 at the bar and maybe 3 tables which included us. We ended up never getting the refill, took us asking another server for us to get out ticket. We have eaten here many times over the years, this is the first bad experience, makes us not want to go back with the way she...
Read moreThis place was excellent! I would have loved to try a beer or two, but I wasn’t drinking on this visit. Luckily, they had a non-alcoholic golden ale that paired beautifully with the meal.
I ordered the option that lets you pick three of their top dishes, and went with fish and chips, bangers and mash, and a scotch egg.
The scotch egg was a highlight. I’ve made them myself (smoked with spicy breakfast sausage), so I was excited to try their more traditional version. The yolk had a faint ring of grey, but it didn’t affect the flavor at all. The fried shell was crisp and golden, and it paired wonderfully with the mustard on the side.
The bangers and mash were also excellent. The potatoes weren’t the super-whipped creamy style. They had that rustic, from-scratch texture that made the dish feel hearty and traditional.
Of course, I couldn’t skip the fish and chips. Now I understand why they’re such a hit here. The batter is light, crisp, and full of flavor. It worked perfectly on the scotch egg and was even better on the fish. The tartar sauce was spot-on, and the malt vinegar on the table sealed the deal.
Overall, I really enjoyed my meal. Next time I’d like to try the fried green chile strips...
Read moreI love the San Mateo location but the Juan Tabo location screams mismanagement. Not only did they run out of corned beef on St. Patrick’s day, on my trip there today their actions amount to bait and switch or false advertising. Relying on their menu on GrubHub, I made the mistake of ordering corned beef and cabbage to go (supposed to come with mashed potatoes, cabbage, peas and carrots- a proper Irish meal). Imagine my shock when the 11 dollar meal comes with 4 decent, but not large, hunks of beef, a few leaves of cabbages with a pea pod and little carrots and no mashed potatoes. For further visual, the entire contents of the box would have fit in the palm of my hand without issue-no exaggeration. When confronted with the fact their menu says comes with mashed potatoes they flat out deny it and refuse to place it with the order (false advertising). When confronted with the reality of the excellent service I’ve received at the other location and the generous portions (and menu matching plates) their reaction was to get angry. When they were informed I would no longer patronize this location, the reaction was “I’m fine with that (direct quote)”. This location needs...
