I would say give this place some time to get their things together. We called before coming to see if they take reservations as we were expecting 9 people. They said they do not but will be expecting us. They did have a table ready for us at the time I said, but they very specifically said we do not take reservations. If you order coffee, you have to serve yourself from their coffee station. You see your waiter upon ordering and when paying. Other people brought us our food, and our plates were missing the basic sides the meal came with (as it states comes with on the menu). When asked if what we got was actually green Chile we had two separate people say "I don't know. It could be salsa verde." When they looked at our plates they still did not know. If you are a big green Chile eater, please note their green chile is sweet, not spicy. The red chile was delicious and had an excellent flavor. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with an orange juice. I believe the orange juice is hand pressed (not using a machine but physically pressing the oranges) and served over ice. It took a very long time for my orange juice to come out. The biscuits were large and the gravy was a chorizo gravy, not overpowering at all. I am giving this place a three star review because it has so much potential to be amazing. It's just not there yet. If they could really work on the servers being a server, everyone knowing the menu, quicker service with drinks, and serving coffee as most would expect of a brunch place, then they would boost their rating exceptionally. I'm not ready to recommend...
Read moreI was super excited to try Smothered after I saw their influencer “launch” and the food looked incredible. I’ll preface this review with the fact that my family and I visited during their soft launch and maybe that’s why we had this experience with the food.
We were most excited about their bacon flight which seemed super enticing with the different flavors and seasoning. To our dismay, the $13 bacon flight tasted like bacon all around. We couldn’t taste any of the “flavoring” or spices advertised. The “pancake” bacon just tastes like burnt batter. For the steep price, it seemed like a fail to us.
I ordered the French toast and was excited to taste the custard. The custard was cold (which is to be expected) and just made the French toast taste cold. The French toast was just French toast in my opinion. Nothing specially but it wasn’t bad. Just don’t recommend mixing the custard on top. The syrup was warm and had a great taste.
My husband ordered the chicken biscuit sandwhich. He said the chicken was very thin and the breading was very thick. The biscuit was amazing and fluffy. Kale salad was hmmm a kale salad.
They also advertised fresh squeezed orange juice which was surprised to me given the price of $5 and fresh squeezed orange juice is typically pricier than that. I also saw them pouring it from a gallon. That’s not to say maybe it’s squeezed at a different location. Just seemed odd.
Their service and ambience is awesome! We will give them another shot in coming months and hope their food...
Read moreAfter weeks of seeing this place all over social media, my friends and I were really looking forward to trying it out. Our waiter was great and my latte was probably the highlight of the visit—it was delicious.
Unfortunately, the food was a big letdown. I had the chilaquiles, and they looked nothing like the photos online. The dish was dry, with just a couple small dollops of goat cheese, and there were a few oddly flavored slices of something around the plate that completely overpowered everything else—I still can’t get the smell out of my nose hours later. The egg on top was supposed to be over-easy, but it was completely overcooked, more like a hard-boiled egg. I only took a few bites and didn’t bother taking the rest home. For the record I was not expecting authentic chilaquiles.
One friend ordered the chicken and waffles. Again, the egg was overcooked, the chicken was extremely dry—so much so that she couldn’t even eat it—and the potatoes were bland. She left most of the meal on the plate and declined the to-go box.
Another friend got a waffle, which she said was just okay, but she didn’t care for the red chile butter. She asked for regular butter instead but never got a response.
I really hate leaving negative reviews, especially for local businesses, because I want to see them succeed. But this meal was disappointing enough—and expensive enough—that I felt like I had to say something. I hope they can make improvements, because the potential is there, but this visit really missed the...
