Never experienced issues at the ALT until tonight. Yes, there are excusable “off” performances in every professional theatrical production, however, the contribution of the ALT team effort consistently makes up for any faux-pas encountered. I fully understand the need to expose the theatrical arts to our younger generations: they are the future of this needed science. I attended the September 21, 2023 performance of “The Play That Goes Wrong”: a jovial rumpus of Brit Wit. Unfortunately for myself and the evening’s patrons around me, the ALT had enlisted, invited, (who knows) and had explicitly introduced at the performance intro, a high school group that was attending that evening’s performance. Don’t quite know the reason why this was done, however it seemed to have provoked a need to “misbehave” or even encourage “acting-out and over performed, theatrical enthusiasm” of what was actually happening on stage. These young, impressionable adults, had no understanding of acceptable civil decorum or behavior in a public forum. They were clueless. Had a parent or guardian been there, a totally respectable result would have ensued, I am positive about that. I would hope that, in the future, that these groups of “children” be provided access to your performances during “school times” perhaps where they may share the same enthusiasm as their peers. I hope this message makes it way back to the institution that instructs these infantile perpetrators who invaded your theatre on 9/21/2023. It certainly ruined my evening and will think twice before attending any of ALT’s performances in the...
Read moreThe Albuquerque Little Theater, ATL for short, is a quaint, historic performance venue, having been in operation for nearly 100 years. Our inaugural visit/performance was to see their production of 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. Growing up seeing the original as well as a revival with Ted Neely reprising his role as Jesus, I had high expectations. Despite the set looking more like Godspell, than JCS, I settled into my seat and readied myself for the familiar howl of the electric guitar. I don't know if it was the director's choice to have a majority cast of women or if not enough men auditioned for roles, but having women portray historically male roles was at times confusing to understand who were which disciples. Nonetheless, it all came together in the end. Ms. Davidson held her own as Judas, but it was not the vocal part for her talents. Liberties should not have been taken with the style, per se, of Judas' death. There is an allegorical meaning to Judas hanging/dying from a tree. Some of the actors microphones had transmission issues rendering them ineffective and therefore difficult to hear. All in all, it is a lovely theater with much to offer and I look forward to seeing future productions, perhaps of a more traditional...
Read moreThis is a review of the Box office ticket sales girl Paulette. I called in to purchase tickets for little shop of horrors. This will be my first time seeing a show and purchasing tickets for a show. , and I am not familiar with the process. Unfortunately she was very annoyed with my lack of knowledge, and reiterated information in annoyed and arrogant spirit and tone. It was unfortunate because she just assumed I knew what she meant, and when I asked again, it really perturbed her, and it came across. I think she is burned out, and does not need to deal with the public any longer. She's not happy in this position, and it shows. What I felt was not helped served, or welcomed to the theatre, but that she restrained herself to have to put up with me and my ignorance. It was not a good 1st encounter with Albuquerque Little Theatre. I just think she is in the wrong position, her personality is probably better suited in another position, because she does not enjoy helping people in the box office, and it definitely shows. Paul. Thank you for responding, it shows you care. Changing my star...
