My family experienced a serious safety issue while staying at the Monterey hotel. We had a family room (several people all sharing a single bathroom) but were glad to see there was a bathroom and shower area only a few doors down, for purposes like these. The door labeled restrooms/showers is opened by a key card and opens into a small room with 3 bathrooms for guests.||our first night there, I went in to use one of these showers. When I came out I found out that a homeless man was inside the middle shower room, who came out, claiming to be recovering from some drug use, he had been sleeping in there. I immediately returned to my room and called the front desk, hoping no one else would wander in there- they said they would send security.||I never heard anything back from the desk, and the next morning when I asked, the receptionist was unaware anything had happened.||The following night- assuming there was NO WAY this could happen again, If security had been called- another family member went in to use this bathroom. Having a bad feeling, the rest of us walked down just to make sure. Out from the shadows of the stairwell, just around the corner from the bathroom, the same man approached- my mother was coming out and he was walking towards her. As he approached, he asked to be let back into this room. My brother said no, that we wouldn’t be doing that, and the man threatened to hit him.||We went back to the room as quickly as possible. I called the front desk once again- in an absolute panic. Telling them the same man was back and this time he was threatening violence. They said they would send someone- security? Police?||I heard and saw nothing after peeking through the door- and twenty minutes later, wanting to know what had happened- I called the front desk again.||They told me this time someone was “on their way.” Meaning in this twenty minute period, this person had PLENTY of time to leave. The person on the phone didn’t seem to think this was a big deal- almost seemed annoyed that I was bothering them. I was absolutely baffled. How could this not be a big deal!?||Two days later, at 6 am, using the buddy system, I had to use this shower one last time, when another different homeless person approached me, asking to be let in. This one peacefully left when I said I could not.||I understand that this area has an issue with wandering homeless. I do not blame the motel for that. What I found upsetting was the complete lack of followup with an issue that made my entire family feel unsafe, and an absence of any kind of security measures, without any kind of security employee seeming to be on the property at all.||At the very least- if this is a recurring issue for the motel- guests should be warned at checkin that there could be people that shouldn’t be on the property lurking, and to be on the lookout. People coming from out of town (like me) are not from areas where this is an issue and are therefore completely unprepared.||I made this reservation on booking.com, and was interested to see that my ability to leave a review there was disabled. Feels very...

Read moreLet me just preface that all of the employees working here are great and my complaint isn’t with any of them.
This motel is nice, but it’s all surface-level. The showers in the room try to be modern but they lack functionality. All of the water seeps out of the shower, creating a hazardous puddle.
The door to the room isn’t sealed all the way, so water came in from the outside when staff was cleaning — meaning we had another puddle of water in our room.
The pool and lounge play music on most nights, which is fine, but some guests would prefer to go to bed earlier. They blast the music until 10pm but some of the locals hang around later — taking up parking spaces from the guests. On one day, the pool gate was left open (usually you have to scan a key card to get in) and it seemed like the pool was just overrun with locals.
As others have mentioned, the check-in is the same area as the bar, so there needs to be more signage or an email sent to guests beforehand explaining this.
There is also no one on-staff to help with issues during the day. We saw one person cleaning the outside areas (and they were lovely and helpful when we needed them) but no one ever answered the phone the entire time we were there.
Before we checked-in, we tried calling the motel to request an earlier check-in and no one answered.
Overall, this motel has potential but it only cares about gentrified vanity. I guess that’s what happens when Portland...
