The location and atmosphere was amazing but unfortunately I'm unable to review their food because they were not open as they didn't observe their posted Juneteenth hours advertised on their website. Juneteenth is also my son's birthday and we were very excited to try Catboat with him for the first time. We were thrilled to see that on their website it showed they would be opening early for the holiday so we went out there to arrive when they were scheduled to open at 12:00 pm. To our surprise they were closed. There were a few other families that were waiting so we thought we'd wait to to see if maybe they were running a little late or something. During that time, we sat and took in the amazing view from their outdoor seating. The outdoor seating was relatively clean though there lots of spider webs. However, I will chalk that up to the fact that there was no one there to clean up since they hadn't opened yet. Also during that time several other customers/parties came looking for the restaurant to be open as I assume that they thought like we did that Catboat would honor the holiday hours that they posted on their website. Some patrons took a seat and waited and others just left. At some point I overheard a woman say "they changed the hours on the website". After hearing that, I checked myself and sure enough the posted house had been changed to open at 3pm. This was very disappointing because there really is no explanation for this other than the owners and/or management of Catboat must have somehow found out that customers were arriving early due to the hours they had posted on their website and instead of trying to compensate those customers that came out to the restaurant and were waiting for them to open they just decided to change the hours on the website as if they had always intended to open at 3pm. This is terrible customer service. It's bad enough to make the mistake in the first place, but once finding out that the mistake was made the least that could have been done was to perhaps have someone run over there to apologize and pass out coupons to those customers that had been waiting for hours for them to open. To just change the hours without a thought to those of us that had built our day around visiting your establishment according to the hours you had posted is really disappointing to say the least. Anyways. We really enjoyed the view and probably would have enjoyed eating pizza while watching the boats...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place. The walk to get there was fantastic from my place in Crystal City. I took my dog and we had fun going along the trail. This could be a very fun place to bike to with friends too or just drive up to and hang out.
The view is beautiful, the vibes outdoors are great, the boats, the airplanes, the entire ambiance and atmosphere is perfect. You can come with your dog and sit outside and enjoy beautiful weather and a cold beer.
I ordered two slices and a non alcoholic slush. The slush was AWESOME. A mango slush with a maraschino cherry. It was so refreshing on the sunny 70 degree day. It really hit the spot. The price for the slush was ridiculous. $8 for a non alcoholic slushie, a 7/11 would be half the price and twice as much. Regardless, you're paying for the view and the view and the slush was good.
I'd seen the pizza on social media and thought that it was the real deal sicilian squares being served fresh and hot. I ordered one pepperoni and one mushroom. It took them a decent amount of time to get two slices and they gave it with a knife and fork which initially confused me until I picked up the slice and realized why. The crust was NOT crispy at all, it was actually soft and bready. The sauce was kind of splattered on top and the cheese halfway melted. The slices looked good for the photos but they were NOT good quality pizza at all. The mushroom one was honestly bad. The toppings seemed cold, the cheese hardly present, the mushroom were almost thrown on top and they had barely any flavor. At least the ingredients were fresh. The crust was hardly crunchy. The pepperoni was saved by the fact that the pepperoni was decent and the extra fat made the crust crispier. I would only get the pepperoni.
Regardless, the pizza seems secondary to the booze which is probably the main draw. Pull up, have some fun on the water, then relax with a boozy slush and once you're drunk enough you'll tolerate the pizza. The prices are not friendly, the beer prices seemed...
Read moreOn a warm Friday night, this relaxed waterside hangout next to the Washington Sailing Marina was just about perfect - a nice breeze off the river, planes to watch landing at DCA, and a lively crowd enjoying the pizza (think New York-style but with a substantial crust), prepared at the mother ship, Sonny's on Georgia Avenue in Park View. Once you get your drinks, the fun vibe takes over, and you can happily sit on the deck (or the lawn, if you prefer) indefinitely.
Despite a "kitchen" limited to a pizza oven, the staff turns out slice after slice for a long line of eager eaters (the wait at 6 pm maxed out at 15 minutes). The menu has just three choices for the hearty square slices - cheese, pepperoni, and mushroom (my fav) - along with a hefty Caesar salad, an Italian sandwich, and odds 'n' ends like seasoned popcorn and a caramel ice cream bar that's to die for. The eclectic selection of drinks includes draft and canned beers, natural wines, coffees and kombucha, along with sodas.
You have to keep your eyes open for the Daingerfield Island location, a left turn just south of the airport from the GW Parkway (the Park Service sign still points to the long-gone predecessor Indigo Landing) - but just follow the marina's driveway to the end. For a casual, affordable evening outdoors on the water,...
