Read moreYesterday, I went to The Big Greek Cafe for lunch and it was amazing. This was probably my fifth time trying The Big Greek Cafe and everytime has been amazing, to be honest. So, this review is overdue.
During yesterday's visit, I got the Gyro Pita, as they have a $7 Wednesday special for that item, and I got their Greek Potatoes for the first time as my side. I love how they never skimp on the portions. My Gyro had plenty of Gyro Meat and toppings and tasted delicious. I give their Gyro Pita a 9 out of 10.
It was close to reminding me of the taste of the Gyros I used to have as a kid, as my mom would take me every year to the Greek Festival during the summer in my hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan. They are close to being on Theo and Stacy's level.
The Greek Potatoes were so flavorful and had great texture, absolutely delicious. I got a side of Tzatziki Sauce to eat them with and it made it even better, which I thought at first wasn't possible. I give their Greek Potatoes a 9.5 out of 10.
The other menu items I've had include their Shrimp Souvlaki Pita (9.8 out of 10), Big Greek Bifteki Pita (8.8 out of 10), Hercules Burger (9.5 out of 10), Big Greek French Fries (9.3 out of 10), and their String Beans with Tomato Sauce (9.5 out of 10).
The customer service is also always great when I come to dine inside the location. They are friendly and they always make sure you are enjoying your food. I give them a 9.5 for customer service.
I love that this spot is literally blocks from my apartment and I love this for me, since Greek Cuisine is in my top three of favorite types of cultural cuisines out there. If you love Greek food and are ever in the Potomac Yard area, definitely...
Read moreWent two weeks in a row.....same day, about same time, same meal (chicken bowl)0 First visit was great, a bit of a wait but it was because the chicken being freshly cooked/grilled.
Second visit was a disapppointment. First off they seem to not have any air conditioning in the place. It was super warm, and almost objectively hot.....no way anyone can enjoy a meal in that space. The wait was significantly shorter and I figured out why......the previously cooked chicken was microwaved to warm up and discretely put in my bowl (I saw the guy bring it to the lady and then saw her cover the bowl to hand over......and the grill was clean and not being used). One bite and sure enough chicken was reheated.
I understand the place closes at 9pm and staff want to go home as quickly as possible. I placed my order at 8:10pm so not a last minute order. If they want to be closed and out the door at 9pm then they should stop taking orders at 8pm or 8:30pm so they can start cleaning up......and customers don't receive microwaved/reheated food. I wonder what the status is of the fryer at 8pm......would fries be reheated too?
Also.....use less red cabbage in your bowls....yes it is a cheap filler but more lettuce would be nicer.
Fix the air conditioning and please throw out the microwave. Don't sell...
