I am pleased to give Fish Market Restaurant at 105 King St in Alexandria, VA a 4-star review. This establishment offers fast service and serves great food, making it a go-to location when visiting Old Town Alexandria or the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) areas.
One standout dish at Fish Market is their Clam Chowder, which I found to be really good. The flavors were rich and satisfying, and it was evident that care and attention were put into its preparation. Additionally, the restaurant offers a selection of local and shipped oysters that are among the best I've had in the area. The freshness and quality of these oysters are truly commendable.
During my visit, I had the pleasure of trying their Oyster Rockefeller, which was also exceptional. The dish was well-prepared, with the oysters perfectly cooked and the Rockefeller sauce adding a delightful burst of flavor. It was a true highlight of the meal.
To start off the dining experience, I ordered the jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, and it did not disappoint. The shrimp were large and succulent, and the cocktail sauce provided a tangy and refreshing complement to the seafood.
It is worth noting that the restaurant can get busy during lunch hours, which is a testament to its popularity and the quality of the food. However, despite the crowds, the service remains efficient and prompt, ensuring a smooth dining experience.
For those who enjoy dining outdoors, Fish Market offers outside seating, allowing guests to enjoy their meal in a pleasant and relaxed setting. This is a wonderful option, especially during the warmer months.
Fish Market also boasts a full bar, offering a wide selection of beverages to accompany your meal. Additionally, they have daily specials, adding variety to the menu and providing an opportunity to try new and exciting dishes.
Fish Market Restaurant is a must-visit establishment in Alexandria. With its fast service, great food, and standout dishes such as the Clam Chowder and Oyster Rockefeller, it is a reliable choice for locals and visitors alike. The busy lunch hours are a testament to its popularity, but the efficient service ensures a pleasant experience. Whether you choose to dine indoors or enjoy the outdoor seating, Fish Market provides a delightful atmosphere. The full bar and daily specials add to the overall appeal of this establishment. I highly recommend giving Fish Market Restaurant a try during your time...
Read moreLast night my wife and I invited a friend to Fish Market for dinner. Good things first: We had a great table outside. It was a lovely and lively evening on King St. Oscar was our server. He was simply awesome and on point.
Here comes where the rubber hits the road ...
My mezcal based old fashioned was subpar at best. It was a water-down cocktail with no character and no identity. Mezcal was hardly noticeable in the drink. Salted glass rim was interesting and odd at the same time. For sure not worth $15.00.
Our steamed mussels in wine sauce appetizer was ok. It came with a single small roll. We asked for 2 more. Rolls are made in house but the crust is very thin which makes them basically a ball of dough and not suitable for dipping and enjoying the wine sauce.
The worst part of the experience was my meal. Honestly, it was an embarrassing combination of a bunch of bad quality rice submerged in an under seasoned and unappetizing gravy topped with two pieces of deep fried catfish. This entree was supposed to be a catfish etoufee but the assembly of the three components were done extremely poorly. I nibbled on a couple of small bites and let it go because I didn't want to say anything when we had invited a guest to dinner.
The seafood on penne and fusilli with cream sauce had too much cream in it to the point that the only taste or flavor was that of the cream.
Fish Market on King St has always been one of our favorite places but last night was a total failure on their part. Thanks to Oscar for his prompt service and his...
Read moreI have to give Fish Market 5 stars for simply having great tasting fresh food. I am not much of a fish eating fan but when it is fresh, I will get outside of my comfort zone and try menu items that I typically do not try in my home town.
I ordered the Redfish Etouffee and it was delicious. The menu items offered ranged from the soups and stews, starters, and salads but these are not your typical items. These were fresh fish items and were excellent. Seafood stew. Lobster bisque. Ahí tuna. These are but a few of the items.
The staff was friendly and extremely helpful in offering their take on various items as we had a few questions from our party of 6. We enjoyed the happy hour drinks (cocktails were a bit pricey as we ordered $17 doubles) and the especially affordable 32 oz. schooner beer for $9.
As can be seen in the pictures, the lighting was a bit dim and too red but we were okay with it as everyone really enjoyed their food.
We entered the restaurant and immediately we were met with the scent of fresh fish as if we were on the docks when the boats pulled in. We stayed on the first floor where the bar offered live music. I believe upstairs was more of a dining area and held quite a bit more seats but unsure as we never went upstairs.
While my bill for two was $135, it does include about $40 in drinks, an appetizer, chowder, and two meals. Worth every bit of what we were charged. It may not look like much inside but you will not be disappointed...
