My daughter and I went in today to look for dresses. We have birthdays coming up and given the grim year we’re all coming out of due to Covid I thought it would be fun to get fancy dresses for the occasion (her cousin got her prom dress there a couple years ago). The sales lady immediately asked if I wanted to try something on and I tried on two really beautiful dresses. When my daughter tried to try on a dress the sales lady stopped her and told her she couldn’t try it on even though both myself and another woman we’re trying things on. I said “Why not?” And she said “Well this fabric is delicate and she has no event to wear it to” ... what!? I said “Excuse me, I am her mother and I have given her permission to try on this dress” and she said “Really, this dress?” motioning to the dress making it clear she didn’t approve. I said “yes” ... but by that point my daughter was so mortified and embarrassed that she just ran out of the store in tears, ruining the entire experience.
It’s really a shame because my daughter just became a teenager and has a whole slew of homecomings and proms ahead of her. This was going to be our go-to place for that, but being a teenager is hard enough with out some sales lady on a power trip making young girls...
Read moreI hate having to review this because I've been a happy frequent shopper of the Lucky Knot for several years now but unfortunately I just had such a tasteless experience. Let me also add that the reason I've loved the Lucky Knot so much in the past is because I've never felt discriminated for being among the younger shopper oh yea and I'm hispanic too. They have always treated me kindly and I've been treated just as there, what I guess you could say is there regular kind of customers. So, on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at approximately 6:40pm I was in Old Town getting ready to have dinner with my family but stopped at the Lucky Knot to look for a luggage tag, as I am preparing for my 1st trip to Spain, yea I know SUPER Exciting!!! Well, since I was in a hurry to catch up with my family, I asked the older white associate if she could direct me to where I might find a luggage tag? She looked at me with a very snobby face and told me they did not have any luggage tag and perhaps I should go to CVS!!! I obviously would want a luggage tag with greater quality and style then, something I could find at CVS! After this unsettling experience I am going to think twice about coming back to the...
Read moreWas exploring Old Town Alexandria with my husband after a long day of traveling. I saw this store and thought I would find some things I wanted to buy in there, so we went in. Immediately upon entering, we were greeted by two stuck up snobby young employees who did shockingly say "Welcome in" but followed it with looking at each other, laughing, and going on to say to each other how "this is a classy store." I immediately was ticked off because it seemed very much like they were implying that towards me, who was wearing comfortable clothing (t shirt and shorts) after being in a car all day! Of course I'm not going to be wearing a dress or a blouse and slacks when I'm going to be in a car for 8 hours! I was going to buy something in there, there were plenty of things I wanted to purchase, but I felt like I was being judged the whole time I was in there and decided I didn't want to support a business that makes their customers feel judged as soon as they enter the store so I left. For a store in a town that gets customers from various places, they are not welcoming to anyone who clearly isn't...
