Where do I begin? Oh, I know…DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!!! This is your warning. His product is ah-mazing for real BUT I’ve been patronizing the establishment for years from around Ft. Washington, 18th&Penn, to USDA, to Natl Harbor, to his new brick and mortar. We’re true fans of him and his product. We ventured out about a month ago, found a spot, got out and waited 30 mins and I kid you not!...The line did not move. Customers waiting were throwing in the towel left and right bc of the heat. While I hated it, I appreciated moving up the line. After another 15 mins. we were no closer. We surrendered our spot to a family behind us. I was pissed and disappointed. We decided to give it a go again after we had a quick lunch. The line was approx. 20 deep, we waited 35 mins before we finally got to the window to stop. My issues are we can see that the owner reads the reviews of his customers AND responds. He could care less about maturing his operations. His background tells us what his biggest concerns are---Marketing. No one better. He’s excellent at it. However, his operations will suffer in the long term if he doesn’t leave a space that’s open to feedback from his very consumers. It’s great to listen to Hymns while waiting in the sweltering DMV humidity in June and July. Unfortunately, as much as I love listening to them, they don’t help my patience while standing out there. Have someone from staff come outside to interact, take orders with a tablet, give out cups of water or those little 11oz Fiji bottles of water, at least we’d be married to not leaving since we paid. I can deal with the cost of 8oz of custard, the dreadful takeout boxes, not accepting credit cards, the order taker handing out orders and leaving the window vacant for 5-7 mins—not taking orders; I can deal with all that but standing out in the heat without any ounce of compassion for your customers is trifling. We all want you to WIN!...but...
Read moreI’ve had nothing short of amazing and delicious experiences at Goodies. My favorite treat is the Boogie Woogie or usually the specials like homemade rum cake! If you see it on IG stories, RUN to Goodies!! You won’t be disappointed. I’ve also tried the Nutter Butter sundae, many different donutwiches, banana pudding, peach cobbler and the Juke Box. All great choices.
The kindest humans operate this spot and I can’t say enough about them too. Uncle takes his time interacting with each person who comes through and preparing their orders. Each time I visit I feel like more than a costumer, I feel like family. A moment I was particularly touched by was observing him hold space for a child paying on their own and listening as they excitedly shared their weekend. My heart melted. Children deserve to be seen as whole people. Brandon will occasionally sell his homemade caramel and dinners (recently was jerk chicken, mac n cheese, green beans and cornbread) and has looked out and saved me a jar or a plate when I’ve reached out. Everything is so, SO good!! It’s spectacular!
The patio is the most gorgeous place to sit and enjoy the treats. This place can get busy and while I wait, I love listening to the music played on the speaker, when it’s on. They play all the classics! On a few Sundays I’ve gone after church, it was Gospel so I got round two of worship! Haha! I’ve been during slower moments and once, Uncle had come out and gardened and talked about his process. They’ll tend to it through the seasons. To name a few, you may see tulips in the spring and giant elephant ears and marigolds in the fall. Just a beautiful space! When you visit Goodies you truly feel the labor of love and bright spirit each time you visit. It’s like a frozen custard and treats...
Read moreThis place is top tier in terms of quality, customer service and ambiance! I can’t believe I’ve lived in the DMV all of my life and missed out initially on this hidden gem! The joyful decor of the ice cream shop literally put happiness in my soul and a huge smile on my face. I was simply in awe at the sheer excellence of the craftsmanship, detail, and love that went into the restoration of the historic ice house. Did I mention the cute flowers outlining the shop? What a great place to eat ice cream, sip coffee, read a book or just people watch. Honestly, the shop reminded me of something out of a fairytale! It was just that cute and the pick me up I needed that day! The customer service was spectacular, the server nicely dressed offered my daughter and I a sample before we ordered. While we ate our custard he asked about our experience and was diligent to keep the tables pristine. The buttery crust on the cherry pie, plump, sweet and tangy cherries, and custard that I ordered was sheer ectasy! It was rich and velvety—oh you’ll definitely taste the difference in the custard compared to others. It was smooth , creamy, decadent, and yummy perfection! I’m hooked and in love with this place , my new secret hideout—well I guess not so secret after this review.😂 There’s literally nothing you can say bad about this place. If you have anything bad to say you’d have to be a scrooge. It oozes HAPPINESS 🥰. It is simply a joyful piece of heaven; and honestly in all my years I’ve never seen a business compare in its detail to quality and commitment to the customer experience. Thanks Goodies for giving the DMV some sweetness and putting a smile on our faces. Awesome job! BTW. keep the cherry pie on the...
