As a family that has done perhaps 100 escape rooms in different countries and cities this one held a lot of promise and fell way short on delivery.
First, the room (on a 92 degree day) had no air conditioning that functioned and the portable unit they had was not functional either. It made the overall game play uncomfortable and they should have informed me beforehand so I could have rebooked.
Second, we checked in and there was no effort whatsoever to greet us and bring us into an experience. There were employees walking by but they made almost zero effort to communicate other than “Are you the 220? Fill out a waiver” and then disappeared. No “__ will be your game master and will be with you in a few minutes, they bathrooms are here water is there etc.” Just an absolute zero for customer experience and service.
Third, we did Kings Ransom and it was relatively easy but the lack of diversity of problems to solve was disappointing and some of the items need you to just guess and plug as opposed to solving a riddle or problem that revealed the answer (Margaret). Additionally it was clear that the game master either can’t hear you or if they can they weren’t listening because twice we got stuck in a spot where we had actually solved the item but it just wasn’t clicking over. We finally had to ask for a hint and the hint we got was what we had already known because they aren’t dynamically giving clues they are just prepicking set clues.
All in all we were hopeful to have many rooms to solve as we typically like to run them all at a new place and those hopes were dashed. I can see in the past negative reviews were written off to inexperienced staff but the issues we had were ones that didn’t take experience they just required people who care about making it a destination. I don’t feel right giving one star because I think it is clearly not what the originators want from their staff but at the same time they shouldn’t leave the shop in the hands of inexperienced and/or dispassionate employees.
From a game play perspective just essentially unlocking a bunch of locks is pretty lackluster. Also disappointing when everything is contained in one room but that’s just preference not part of my...
Read moreSo first let me start by saying that I love escape rooms, we did two of them today at Escape Quest. This would be my 15th & 16th time doing them. I have done them in many different cities, and I just can't get enough. The first room we did was The Black Dahlia, it was challenging, a great story, and overall a cool design. There was four of us paired with another couple and we made such a great team. We then did another room right after that called The Bunker. This room was a little more relaxed but overall it was a cool concept. This is where we ran into some issues. First there were ten of us in that room. There is absolutely not enough for ten people to always be doing something. Maybe 6-8 would fit better. Then (as I already know) you get paired with strangers which in my experiences have never been bad ... until today. We got paired with another family of four, and a couple. The family of four wasn't too into it but I did my best to made sure everyone felt included. The guy portion of the couple just took over everything, and would refuse to give any of the things he found to others to help and work as a team. He also got into a small spat with the dad in our other group. Overall he kind of ruined the fun for us all. Easy fix thought, when the game is over we will book another room (that would make it the third of the day at their location.) I will say that Tierny (one of the managers) was SUPER ACCOMODATING! She spoke with me and apologized for my lack of fun which is not her fault at all! And she booked us into another room right away. She was just one main component of the great customer service that Escape Quest provides (keep in mind she didn’t have to do this at all.) I am very pleased overall with this escape game and will be coming back in the future!...
Read moreGreat experience for first timers. The staff was amazing, they were informative from the start of calling getting information about the facility to walking in the facility. I called 3 separate times (only because I am so undecisive) spoke to 3 different representatives who all explained in detail what to expect and what the room entails by phone to also mention kids are invited into the facility if the entire room is booked really helped me make my choice. Nevertheless, walking in and being greeted by such a welcoming staff was very inviting. The escape room chosen was based on the knowledge from the staff members and how it would benefit our family from ages 4 to 65, not to mention a birthday surprise for my mother-in-law, it was a great choice! The facility was clean, spacious, smelled great and decorated beautifully. The room chosen was decorated strategically to fit the event which brought out the anxiousness of wanting the challenge. The room was very fun, interactive, yet challenging (King Ransom). It allowed the youngest players to the oldest an opportunity to engage and interact in the activity while collaborating successfully. Because of the amazing critical-thinkers in the room, we completed the task and saved the King!!!!!!! The staff was just as excited as we were when we won the challenge, that made it even more special. Thanks for an awesome experience Escape Quest Alexandria, we will be...
