I booked this hotel at the Hilton.com website after seeing advertisements for a room rate with free parking on Hotels.com. As a Hilton Honors member I decided to locate a similar offer directly through Hilton (Park and Stay) with the understanding that at the time of booking, there would be no cancellation allowed. The next day after driving 6 hours I arrived at Hilton Alexandria Old Town to find the place deserted which was to be expected, it was the day after Christmas. So, I didn’t expect to be greeted by the front desk and immediately advised that my early arrival at noon meant an automatic $25 early check in fee. This was a shock as I’ve stayed at many Hilton properties before (i.e. Beverly Hilton, Canopy by Hilton Washington D.C. etc.) and have never been treated in such an inhospitable manner, especially given the fact that there was nobody at this hotel checking in. In fact, we had to stand at the front desk until the lady from the back came out to greet us. I let her know that I wasn’t interested in paying any additional fee as I was sure that she could have given us ANY room in the place that was already made up but choose not to. After showing her the information on my reservation about how I selected the booking option that included parking, she then proceeds to tell me that parking is an additional $29/ day and that I was mistaken. I quickly got out my phone and showed her the screen shots of the information that showed parking included in the rate. I also showed her how other 3rd party websites are advertising this property with parking included. How conveniently to take the credit card, advise the guest that upon purchase there’s no cancellation offered and then to not provide what was promised at booking. This is shady and unethical and is not a reflection of the Hilton brand by any means. I was told to come back later and speak with Amber the supervisor on duty whose shift started at 3pm. We arrived at 4pm, the time we were advised to show if not wishing to incur additional charges and Amber defended the hotels stance with the policies in place that they adhere to. She did say that she suddenly found an online rate and would allow me to cancel what was booked to rebook a rate that included parking- a rate still higher than what I was given the night before ($140/night). I wasn’t going to make a big deal of it being $10 more so we took our luggage to our room. Just as I thought, the room smelled musty and stagnant- it wasn’t recently cleaned. It was ready for us at noon when we arrived but that’s besides the point. The remote control batteries were dead for the TV, we called to get a replacement remote. The next morning at 10:45Am I hear a slight knock on the door and then it immediately opens while I’m walking around half dressed. I glared at the housekeeper and said “NO” as I closed the door. Needless to say, we were out by 11am sharp and went to our car located in the parking garage. Upon leaving, we were instructed to just use our keycard to get out. Well, that didn’t work. The parking attendant had a sheet with a list of names and room numbers and ours was nowhere to be found. After having given him the details, he wrote it down and let us out. This was the WORST experience of any Hilton property I’ve ever stayed at and it’s clear that new management needs to take over this place if they wish to stay in business. I will NEVER recommend anyone to stay at this hotel. If they can’t be trained to show appreciation and value for the guests in an hospitable manner, they have a lot of nerve working in the...
Read moreI traveled to Richmond to alexandria to have a great stay, My booking was reserved possible 3 week prior through expedia, As I walk in a see this beautiful hotel even starbucks was in the lobby as well. I go to the counter and the young lady was really respectful and nice, AS she was giving us the information for the stay goes ahead and charges up, now me and my husband saved well enough for the trip we both had money but the card was declining, so I told my husband ima try my card cause maybe the bank closed or shut his off for fraudulent activity, My card is a brand new card I bank with VACU so they had to send me a new card, I had tried with my new card as well and it kept declining, so I had asked the young lady to give me a sec that i will have to call my bank card, while i am on the phone with the bank card there is a lot of people behind us checking in, yeah i can feel the embarrassment so did my husband. On the phone lasy tells me no one or your bank has put a stop on the card so you can continue on use, So me thinking second hand i said let me book the room through expedia, so i booked the room with my card and the reservation went through, I went up to her and told her I just booked a room through expedia, so i know that it is not my card that is not declining and this situation is weird, she looked confused and went to the back and spoke with the manager, not once have seen the manager and i was unable to explain the situation.( so please know if my card was not working or i did not have any money, why was i able to book a hotel through expedia) so now she comes back from speaking to the manager and tells me i see that you have booked the room all we need is 50.00 deposit, I said great, I tried to place my card again and it declined, I have asked her why is my card declining it i already booked the room with the same card, i looked at my husband my husband gave her his card and another decline. So now i was unable to get a refund back from expedia for the room that i paid for, and they weren't able to accommodate for a booked room, Me and My husband left out of there feeling strange about the whole situation, we went to eat a restaurant 5 minutes and he used his card and paid for dinner, and then we went to 7 eleven to test the cards again and it had worked. I was unsure why our co worked all of the sudden and it did not work in the hotel, This was our first stay at the Hilton, I felt embarrassed, belittle and also i felt like we were being discriminated , I looked at my surroundings and saw no one had any issues checking but us, it was more of a BIAS feeling. I have not let go of this issues cause i know something was not right. Me and my husband young latin couple and it wasn't like we where dressed any form that can make the hotel look bad but me saying this on a review is how this hotel made me feel, I am not sure what corporate will do and i am pretty sure nothing, but they could never make me change how the way they made me and my husband feel. I had called my bank and did some more investigation and they had told me i was fine in my end, and that expedia took the booking for the room, so thank you Hilton for taking my money for the room I wasn't...
Read moreMy elderly father and I came from Houston to Washington and booked at the Hilton Alexandria in old town at King St. We were expecting valet but this place has no parking valet. The parking garage is very tight when trying to park and it requires your hotel key card to be able to leave the garage, otherwise your locked in. The parking rate is pretty expensive. We were a bit frustrated by this. When you walk into the lobby it is very pretty inside, and the bar and restaurant is very nice with good service and decent food. When we got to my fathers floor (2nd floor) there was a very strong odor, mildew, and smoke is really the only way I can describe it, it smelled pretty bad. In my Dad's room the smell persisted. His refrigerator did not work, there were no complimentary water or other beverage in the refrigerator. His room looked nice but the furniture seemed a bit worn. The rooms are extremely humid. I did my best to turn the air on to try and dry the air out, but it just didn't work. My hair was a frizzy mess due to the high humidity in the room. We booked a few weeks in advance for our vacation but when we arrived which was around 4pmish, my room wasn't ready. It wasn't until 5:15pm when they finally had a room ready for me and it was on the 4th floor. The fourth floor had no smell, and my room was very nice, but again, the furniture was worn and the wallpaper seemed to be coming apart at the seems on the wall in various places. I took pictures to show the wallpaper pulling away at the seams on the wall. The bathroom tub is incredibly small. I am 5ft tall and even I was cramped in the small bathtub. I know most people shower, but I have a medical condition that causes pain, so I need a good bathtub to soak in at night. The Shower gel was empty so I had to use the tiny little soap bar that is provided in the bathroom. My refrigerator worked, but no complimentary beverages. You have to go to the lobby and grab bottled water that you have to pay for downstairs. The coffee machine they provide is hidden away under the furniture, and not out in an area that you can find initially. Overall the staff seemed friendly and responsive, but the turn down service, and room cleaning service is lacking. (The hotel seems short staffed in this area). I had to ask several times to have someone come clean my room and provide fresh towels. There is no place to put your used towels in the bathroom so I had to just leave draped over the tub. There is no complimentary pad or pen/pencil at the desk in the room. When I asked about that I was told due to COVID that they no longer give these things out or put in the room. The sanitizers around the hotel, mainly on each floor at the elevators lack sanitizing solution. I can't say this is a true 4 star hotel. The area around the hotel is an "old town" and beautiful and you have lots of little shops and restaurants to walk to. Overall it was an ok stay. We plan on going back to Washington DC next year but will be booking at a better hotel in DC...
