ADAMANTLY DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! SEE Pictures.... This was a $95.00 order... 4 single serving entrees 1 single serving Lo Mein 1 Dinner serving of Broccoli Fried Rice (8 cups ) Total Bill $95.00 (extremely over priced) AND
No flavor what so ever... every thing tasted the same, and the fish tasted like rusted pipe water, the General Tso's Chicken and no sauce on it at all, neither did the Sesame Chicken...which had so few sesame seeds in it, you could count them.
Well that all just about the food...and then there is the service.... ZERO POINTS EARNED HERE!
After driving more than an hour to get there and back home again, we made another stop before heading home, when we did sit down to eat that is we when we noticed how small the entree portions were, but the containers where piled high with rice.
Too angry, and tired to want to make another 1 hour trip to go back to the restaurant, I called them, which ended up being about 2 hours after getting home and eating. I was calling to complain about how small the entrees where and how all I had was rice. I also stated that they gave me lunch size orders, even after telling him on the phone that I did not intend to order lunch menus...It was 3:20 pm when I called the order in, and their lunch menu states 11:00 - 3PM Monday through Friday are the hours for lunch.
I also mentioned to the person that answered the phone when I called back (he was also the one who took my order initially) that when I made the order initially I was inadvertently selected lunch items, but he told me it was lunch and I said that wasn't what I wanted. I proceeded to order two more items and he confirmed they were dinner size. He asked did I want fried rice or white rice, I made my selection, and he told me it was going to be 15 minutes.
When I called to complain I reminded him about the conversation about lunch vs. dinner, he said he thought I wanted the combo meal and he was trying to save me money. He then said maybe I should come back to store the next day and talk to manager so she can adjust my order.
He puts manager on call she said she didn't care if I rated her poorly on Yelp and other consumer rating tools.
All i wanted was an acknowledgment that he did not understand my request fully when I placed the order,. Instead I got a rude manager who kept telling there was nothing she could do. Even when I told her her employee admitted that he knowingly was ordering lunch size because he said he thought he was saving me money.
I should have known better, after reading their website it is so poorly written, and now I know that even looking at the ratings doesnt tell you everything.... I selected this restaurant because it had 4.5 stars and over 200 raters.
I will never patronize this place again, and will diligently try to persuade others from doing business with them..... TOO EXPENSIVE, NOT GOOD FOOD, AND HORRIBLE...
Read moreMy wife and I have been coming to May Island frequently for a little over a year now. At first glance, May Island is an easily-passed hole in the wall next to 7-11 on a back road in Alexandria. Judging a book by its cover would lead you to miss [easily] the best sushi experience in the area.
Mr. Chen and his family run this sushi/Chinese restaurant. Chen has been making sushi here for almost 10 years. The restaurant is small, but recent renovations have made the decor calming and cute. Best seat in the house? The sushi bar!
The back wall of the bar is covered in money from all over the world, brought in by guests and patrons. From the bar one can also people watch or observe master Chen craft his signature dishes.
The sushi rice here is my favorite in the area. Its slightly vinegary flavor and firm texture compliment every slice of fish. Chen's fish is flavorful and his garnish game is STRONG. My wife and I always look forward to guessing what animal he will carve into a carrot for us.
This restaurant DOES allow ordering omakase style (Chef's choice). It's the best way to order. You will leave full, broke, and happy.
Great sake and beer selection, staff are good for recommendations as well. Overall a great place to eat. Kind of reminds me of the Netflix show, Midnight Diner. Go here! You won't be...
Read moreI have eaten in the restaurant once and the food was delicious, the service also was great, it’s a sweet family owned place. It’s small and nothing fancy inside so kind of a hole in the wall, which is a plus in my mind - not trying too hard just good food. I was recently in charge of food for a dinner our church was having, and decided to have May Island cater since it is close by. I was a little nervous that food for 200 might be difficult for this small business and the quality might suffer. I did not need to worry though because they did an absolutely phenomenal job! The food was delicious, beautifully prepared, and plentiful. Everyone was raving about it, asking me where I had ordered it from, and coming back for seconds! There was something for everyone, even the picky kids loved it. It was also an easy menu to work around some various food sensitivities and allergies. The staff were accommodating and wonderful to work with. We will definitely use them again for future events not to mention Sunday lunch...
