Tortas y tacos la chiquita IV — Restaurant in Alexandria

I was excited to try this place for their $3 Taco Tuesday special. However, while their tacos have a decent amount of meat, they are very flavorless.

We ordered an al pastor taco, carnita taco, and birria taco. The flavor just does not live up to expectations for an authentic taco place. Specifically, the birria tacos were the largest disappointment as the tortillas lacked that signature crispy, orange crust and the meat lacked the spiciness and juice.

Also, the women’s room was out of hand soap and when I asked for a refill, the staff reported that they had none to restock with. I think this is pretty upsetting and unhygienic for a restaurant.

Having lived in Mexico and grown up in a heavily Mexican community in the US, I can say wholeheartedly that this is the best, most authentic Mexican restaurant in NOVA. I've had everything from the chicken soup to tacos to sopes, and huaraches. Everything was so delicious and fresh. Their tacos are just as you'd find them on the street in Mexico with onions, cilantro, lime and salsa. The only thing that could make this place better is a chile de arbol really spicy salsa. As a native Californian, I am hard to please when it comes to Mexican food - but the tacos did not disappoint! You can expect smaller, street-style tacos with a multitude of choices for fillings, served on two corn tortillas and topped with cilantro. This is as close as it gets to authentic in the DMV.
