Wish I could leave ZERO STARS for this TERRIBLE AND UNPROFESSIONAL establishment. Let me start with the owner, old, bald man who is disrespectful as hell towards WOMEN. This man has anger issues & clearly does not know how to handle hisself. I walked into this building less than an hr ago & left within half an hr because of our interaction. Tonight I was invited to a quinceañera that was being held here. The family hosting is related to my man’s family, so you would think this is a comfortable family environment? YEAH RIGHT. I walked up to the open bar for a drink. I walked up there & faced this bald old man in a white shirt & I asked for a “Jarrito de Fresa” & was handed a jarrito de fruit punch. My boyfriend had asked for a bottle of coke in a glass, since that was in the fridge with all the drinks but for some reason he said there wasn’t any but they were obviously behind him & said there was only pepsi, so my boyfriend just said okay well give me Pepsi. Why put them there for the guests to see then? So the man grabbed that then handed it to my boyfriend. As he did that I told him, “I asked for a Jarrito de fresa, this is fruit punch.” This is where the tables turned. A good night into a bad night. HE LITERALLY FREAKED OUT. He started saying,“this isn’t a place to be picky, you can have water or that, nothing else.” I am literally shocked. I told him “do you understand Spanish? I said fresa, that means strawberry.” He got in my face & kept getting closer & louder my man had to step him & tell him to chill out. My man was telling him calm down don’t talk to her like that & he wouldn’t even look at him, he was locked in on me yelling at me. This weirdo wanted to argue with a 5 foot female. He started to laugh & was very rude talking trash, using his hands waving me off. I couldn’t believe what was happening, He kept turning back to his friends behind the bar who were obviously all wasted & said he doesn’t care & that I can leave, he’s not serving me anything else. He was like “Goodbye, get out of here” I walked off with my drink but then quickly returned it, I couldn’t even take a sip. I was distraught. I left so upset. He couldn’t own up to his mistake and fix the issue over a soda. What a way to handle business. Such a bitter man. It’s also sad because I like to come up here from time to time for carne asada fries, I’ve been doing it for years. But you’ve lost me as a customer as well, forever. I will not support a business like this, especially when old men talk to young women like we are garbage. Have some respect. There’s no way your mother raised you that way. I work in the industry, you’re supposed to delight your guest, make them feel welcomed, not offend & disrespect them. I expressed my feelings to the family, the guy who says this man is his uncle because this was so unsettling. I have no words other than I feel disrespected and this was my first exchange with the man and to be caught off guard in this manner ruined my mood & my night. Imagine how he would treat you as a guest. Watch out for this guy. I believe he’s the owner of this establishment. Also, if you’re a woman, stick up for yourself, don’t let anyone disrespect you. You do not deserve that. I did not deserve this over a simple soda mistake. Luckily, I had my boyfriend with me. Imagine if he wasn’t, what could have happened? And I’m also thankful we left before things got out of hand. People are weird and you just don’t know these days. I certainly didn’t think I was going to walk into this one.
EDIT: the restaurant responded with mutiple lies. I never slammed a bottle on the counter & I did not throw cash at anybody. Your drunk uncle made up those lies? What are you even talking about? I walked up to the bar & asked for a pop & was met with an attitude because he messed up? He never said Jarrito wasn’t included. He just handed me the wrong one and I simply let him know. I HANDED it to him, you should have that on camera, you have cameras in your restaurant don’t you? Nothing broke, nothing was thrown, you’re a liar! HOW SAD &...
Read moreFinally got around to checking El Jalapeno out. We live close and really love tacos, but have a few local places we enjoy so usually go with what we know.
I really wanted to love this place. The details are important though! We came in about 8 pm on a Sunday, and there was one other table on their way out. We sat ourselves and were brought menus, chips and 3 kinda of salsa (mild/medium, hot and verde). The chips were my first disappointment - very obviously came from a bag, probably from Gordon's or some place similar. Warm, fresh chips aren't a requirement but I was so let down by theirs. The salsas were pretty good.
What really caught my attention was the lack of cleanliness in obvious places. Under our table the floor was covered in food, but I didn't notice until we were already settled in. We picked our own seat so I guess I should've looked, but I've never had to do that at a restaurant so I didn't think of it. I walked my son to the bathroom and noticed that both doors to the men's and women's bathrooms were filthy. Like, inexcusably dirty. They were both absolutely covered in what looked like scuff mark's, dirt and who knows what else. On the walk back to the table, I noticed that the baseboards looked the same. It wasn't a few scuffs here and there, all of the baseboards in the whole place were completely wrecked. This could easily be resolved with a good scrub or even a coat of paint if they cant get it clean. It is necessary. If something so obvious and in the open like that isn't regularly cleaned, it makes me wonder how clean are the things we can't see from the dining area? 😬😬
I had steak tacos on corn tortillas, and they were pretty good. Comparable to other places nearby. My fiancee had a California burrito which he orders whenever he can find it on a menu and wasn't impressed, but it was my first time trying one and I thought it was pretty good. Kids got cheese quesadillas, which oddly come by themselves as a "kids menu" option. Per their menu rice, beans or fries were like $1.99 extra each. Other restaurantswe frequent include either rice AND beans or fries. The quesadillas were very underwhelming. The kids ate them, but adults tried a bite and they were super bland and boring. I'm not sure what kind of cheese they used but it definitely wasn't muenster cheese like most places, it almost tasted like mozzarella. They were very plain, and I don't know if I've ever come across a quesadilla that I didn't enjoy. Our waitress was inattentive, we needed refills before our food even came out and she never offered or came around for us to ask. The gentleman who cashed us out seemed friendly, but they don't even bring you your bill. When we asked for ours the waitress directed us to the register and said we could pay there.
I'd go back for the tacos but that's about all,...
Read moreIf i could give this place one star i would! I traveled from Novi, Michigan to visit this restaurant because a co worker came in with one of their burritos so I thought i would give them a try. Myself my fiancé and our 22 month old son walked into the establishment and were not greeted immediately, within moments a young lady told us to have a seat anywhere. We did, its not the best looking place but you can't judge a book by its cover so we preceded to sit. Immediately a young lady walked over and ask us what did we want to drink, we had to ask her what kind of products do they carry, she seemed annoyed by us so we just ordered two cokes. She brung the cokes back with no straws and asked us were we ready to order, myself and my fiancé both looked at each other because this young lady had not brung us a menu to even look at, so our response was "wheres the menu? She turned away as if she was annoyed walk away brung us back two menus and walked away. By this time we had only been in the restaurant 10 minutes at most. Already feeling out of place because we were the only African Americans in the establishment we decided to leave, we decided to wait for our waitress to come back over so we could express our concerns for leaving , but she was taking too long she was just got up and left, as we approached the door she looked dumbfounded at us along with about four more workers neither ask why we were leaving or what went wrong so i decided to tell them where they went wrong and the young lady actual words were "Oh" i would never step another foot in that restaurant again and i advice oThers not to as well. We with down the street to a much better looking establishment and got treated so much better. Avoid...
