When visiting from out of town we always read reviews. You have to keep in mind that some people might just be having a bad day so since a few reviews mentioned that people had been going there for years and it was some of the best Chinese they’ve ever had, we decided to try Ho’s Kitchen. When I read that the egg roll was overflowing with bean sprouts I assumed that person didn’t like sprouts and maybe they used a little much… wrong. The only thing is the gigantic egg roll was bean sprouts! No cabbage mix, no meat, no baby bean sprouts… solely jumbo bean sprouts wrapped in egg roll paper. What is that?!? Then we ordered orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, honey chicken and sesame chicken. Nothing was marked. The only thing we could tell was the sesame chicken because it had sesame seeds on it. Unfortunately it was only ok. The other three all looked alike, two tasted the exact same and one had little to no flavor. No idea which one that was. The chicken chunks used in these dishes were so big that you had to cut them into two or three pieces before eating. It was nice that you could tell they used real chicken breast, but why such big pieces??
The only reason I can imagine someone going there for years is that they are too lazy to try another place a few miles down the road. If we had moved here and tried this place, we wouldn’t be going back.
It wasn’t terrible but definitely wasn’t even close to worth the...
Read moreI grew up around the block from their Telegraph location in Dearborn Heights so I’ve been eating their food for quite some time. It’s my understanding that Bob and Connie have retired(congratulations!) but the name still lives on. I moved a little far away from the Allen Park location so I haven’t ordered too much in recent years. I was in the area today and decided to check it out again. I was not disappointed. I’m a pretty simple guy to please when it comes to the Chinese food we can get around here and the sesame chicken was delicious. The coating was crispy and I didn’t get any garbage pieces of meat. The egg rolls were tasty and also larger than some other local restaurants. It was $13 for the dinner combo and I have plenty left for another meal. Our family favorite was the Hong Shu Gai so that’ll be the real...
Read moreI have been going to Ho’s since they opened and I have been sending clients there that come from all over the world for years. The last month or so clients have mentioned that the food is not the same. They wondered if a new owner took over so I decided to see for myself. I can hardly believe I’m saying this but nothing I ordered was the same and far from good. The Wonton soup was terrible. The Hot and Sour soup was a very light brown, absolutely no hotness to it and triple salt. The scallion pancakes went into the trash. They were like raw dough or rubber. Absolutely no crispiness whatsoever. I’m devastated at what has become of the Chinese restaurant I’ve come to rely on and refer to. Now I find myself contacting all clients, colleagues, neighbors and anyone I have referred to Ho’s....
