We paid well over $60 for "The Godfather" sandwich which was very small and nothing special, a waffle and 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy with 2 coffees.
This was our first time at the glass onion and had heard good things about it back when it first opened, so now that we had the opportunity to be off work during the morning hours, we thought we'd give it a try. We walked in and weren't greeted by anyone. We stood in the doorway waiting and eventually someone yelled "sit anywhere". After sitting down we noticed they had a "seat yourself" sign, but it was pushed in the corner, not visible to those walking in. The waitress came over and was friendly enough but when I went to place my order she was "out" of the summer special that I ordered. I quickly picked the banana split waffle, which was another summer special listed. My husband ordered "the Godfather" sandwich with tater tots instead of chips. The food came and we were missing tots. My husband politely stated that he didn't receive his tots and the woman (a different woman from the original waitress) was going to take the whole plate back and then said "you know what, I'll leave you the sandwich and get the tots ready" like she was doing us a favor. No apology or anything else. When the original waitress came back over and asked how things were tasting, I said "good, but they forgot his tater tots". Her reply was "yeah...she yelled over the counter. They're coming" and walked away. Eventually the tots came and they were ok but nothing different than making them from a frozen bag. I tried my biscuits and gravy and they didn't taste right at all. It had a weird sauce that tasted more like chicken paprikash then gravy. It was a weird mix between cream of chicken soup and sour cream. Let's just say, I bought bisquick and Pioneer gravy at the store today and that tasted much better. I realize this review may be critical but for the hype that it receives, I expected more. It was also $4/ coffee for the smallest mug of coffee Ive ever seen, that left much to be desired in the way of flavor.
Overall, I can think of many restaurants and coneys that do a better job, have better tasting food and for a better price. Thanks, but we...
Read moreSo I thought long and hard about this review because let me tell you the food in this place was great. I visited the establishment for the first time on the weekend, I love to find great breakfast places and the reviews for the place seemed great. My younger sister and I decided to eat a late breakfast here when we got to the restaurants all the tables were occupied so we sat at the bar and ordered our breakfast, we were very pleased by what we ordered and everything seem great. We watched the interaction of the two ladies running the place with the customers and it all seemed nice and pleasant just like a place you would feel at home, we watched them greet and talk to their customers as if they were family and wish them a great day and to come back soon as they were leaving. My sister and I finished our breakfast, I paid for our bill and noticed that there were at least 3 empty tables and a few empty chairs at the bar where we sat. I had paid our bill and even left a tip of 20% as I thought it was well deserved. One of the ladies that runs the place had taken our empty plates and I was still drinking my coffee it had been maybe 5 minutes since she had removed the plates when she asked me and my sister “when are you girls leaving” now I know this might seemed like nothing to some, but it was said in an incredible rude manner the two guys sitting next to us that had just ordered their breakfast looked at us like we had been hugging those spots for hours or if like there was people waiting to be seated, there wasn’t and like I mentioned there was plenty of open seating. My sister and I felt pretty humiliated, so I literally stopped drinking my coffee and we left, there was no have a good day, come back soon. I don’t know why the lady had a need to be so rude and make us feel so unwelcomed, don’t know if it was a racist action or what prompted, but it completely ruined our experience. Needless to say I am never coming back to this business or promoting it with my friends and family. Kindness goes along way and specially if you are paying for a service and we were...
Read moreI rarely get a chance to travel downriver much anymore, but I was in the area and this cafe popped up on the search. What a great find. It's small, and has a very family feel to it. The staff was super nice and the service fantastic. The nice surprised was the food itself.
First let me start with the coffee. I meant to ask, but never got around to finding out which brand they brewed but it was delicious. There was no burnt, bitter taste that a lot of places adopted in an attempt copy Starbucks disgusting brew. This coffee smelled, felt and tasted like a well brewed cup of coffee. Hard to believe it was mass produced into a pot the flavors were so good.
I ordered the 1/2 order of French Toast as I had already had 1st breakfast and this was more about meeting my friend. It was nice, nothing special or extravagant but well made, good flavor and crisp to the fork. My buddy ordered the salmon Benedict and that was the real winner of the morning.
Anyone who has read any of my previous reviews knows that hollandaise is a real passion of mine. Nothing irks me more than a flavorless hollandaise sauce topping a nice piece of salmon, or Canadian bacon or whatever type of half sandwich you like. This hollandaise was fantastic. Thick on the tongue, full of fat and flavor, and a perfect compliment to the nice piece of salmon on the plate. Is it bad that I was glad he could only eat half of it because of his illness? I'm sure it is. Just add it to the list of my bad qualities.
Add this to the list of good...
