Certainly! Here's an extended and detailed one-star review:
My experience at John Boy's Restaurant was unfortunately one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve had in Alpena. I arrived with high hopes due to local recommendations but left feeling let down on nearly every front.
Starting with the food: it was far below expectations. The flavors were bland and unimaginative. The scrambled eggs were overcooked and dry, the pancakes tasted stale and rubbery, and the hash browns lacked the crispness you’d expect. The biscuits and gravy, a supposed highlight, were lukewarm when they arrived and the gravy had an artificial taste that was hard to stomach. Portions might have been generous, but when the quality isn’t there, it hardly matters. To add to the disappointment, some items arrived cold, as if they'd been sitting for too long before being served. This lack of care in the food preparation was disheartening.
The service, too, was an issue. While the staff seemed polite enough, they appeared overwhelmed and inattentive. It took an unusually long time for anyone to take our order, and when we finally got our food, there was little follow-up to check if we needed anything. Requests for small things, like water refills or condiments, seemed to vanish into the ether, leaving us waiting and wondering if we had been forgotten. The inefficiency and lack of attentiveness made the whole experience feel unnecessarily drawn out and frustrating.
The atmosphere didn’t help salvage the visit either. The seating area was cramped and uncomfortable, and the restaurant was noisy, making it hard to hold a conversation. On top of that, the place seemed poorly maintained—crumbs on the tables, sticky surfaces, and a general sense that cleanliness wasn’t a priority. It didn’t feel like the warm, welcoming environment that I had expected based on the recommendations.
Parking was yet another problem. The lot is small and hard to navigate, meaning finding a spot can be a challenge, especially during busy hours. After struggling to park, the disappointing experience inside the restaurant only added to my frustration.
Overall, this visit to John Boy's Restaurant was a letdown from start to finish. The combination of bland, poorly prepared food, inattentive service, an unwelcoming atmosphere, and parking difficulties left me regretting the decision to dine here. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend it and won’t be returning in the future.

Read moreI have given this place so many chances, in the past, dinning in and a lot of delivery. Let's start with dine in, at least if not more 90% of my orders are wrong in one way or another, now mind you I order right from the menu so they shouldn't have an issue making these item. I don't change much, maybe no tomatoes or add something, etc. I have been in this fb industry for the better part of my life, so I know how stressful the public can make you, in turn I keep my orders simple. The other night I wanted Nachos, so I called and asked for the chips to be seprated from the toppings so the chips wouldn't be soggy, simple right? Well an hour and 10 mins later my order arrives after being told "Were not busy ATM, so it shouldn't take more than a half hour, give or take" cool I said thank you. I open my food up, the chips were good, but the rest was a giant failure(The straw that broke this camels back). I open the other box to see a pile of refried beans with maybe and I say maybe a table spoon of meat, no cheese, and just lettuce in the other box. Well let's call them and ask them why there was no cheese on my Nachos, and how there's very little and I mean little bit of meat mixed in to the pill of refried beans. Now I was upset but I still kept it polite. You know what, F🖕🖕K IT, I just realized I'm just wasting my time writing this review, it won't change nothing. I've got better things to do. So basically, if you dont mind shity, Food and bad customer service it's the...
Read moreI mean it would be really cool if someone would hang up the phone so I can place an order
Edit: placed my order at 1:44, a large supreme pizza, was told 45 minutes(an unusually long wait time for a pizza but alright, maybe they are busy) I get there at 2:15, expecting it to be packed, there's 4 people in there(3 seated, one waiting on food) oh well no big deal, I showed up early, so I'll wait, it's now been an hour and 15 minutes since placing my order and I'm still waiting. Highly unsatisfied
So after an hour and twenty-five minutes of waiting I get my pizza and it's undercooked... Whoever is back there in the kitchen, please do the culinary world a favor and find a different profession, because clearly you have no...
