Checks all the boxes for an excellent tapas restaurant - ambiance, food, and cocktails. I'd give it a 4.5 in a couple of categories, but I think between the category options and the below review the ratings should be reflective of the experience.
We'll start with the food and drinks - prices are fairly reasonable, coming out in the 10's for the vegetables and 20's for proteins and large plates. Overall the food was good, enabling us to mostly finish about 7 plates.
The vegetable tapas were mostly nothing to write home about, with one particular dish containing something called olivita that had a flavor profile that was not to our personal liking (could be good to others though, so YMMV). Additionally, the octopus salad contained a tentacle that was much smaller for the price that competing restaurants would normally serve for the same price - vegetable/salad dishes 6.5/10.
The real stars were the proteins - the short rib and hangar steak plates tender and flavorful, hitting all the right notes and doneness. The crabcake was meaty and was pleasantly devoid of flour that we were expecting, with a bonus of a balanced sauce. And last but certainly not the least were the roasted oysters, which were perfectly cooked with a very pleasant sauce and seasoning pairing to round off the night. The only detractor would be the price to portion ratio which I suppose is now the new norm given our current times. That said, proteins get a 9.5/10.
Desserts were a bit on the sweet side, but priced and portioned well coming in around $10. The smashed chocolate was an experience for sure, containing a dark chocolate bar with almonds and candied orange peels smashed by what appeared to be a meat tenderizer. Was a head-turner and an experience for sure, but a great way to round off the night. The other dessert was the apple-filled empenada with raspberry sorbet - the empenada probably could have done with a reduced amount of sugar coating the top, but overall still quite tasty. Desserts - 8/10.
Only had one cocktail that night - their special. It consisted of a bourbon with blackberry puree and was quite good - 9/10.
Service was good, with the waitstaff coming in and making sure we were taken care of all night. It was quite busy, but they kept an eye on our pacing and made sure that the dishes came out at an acceptable cadence. Couple of constructive feedback points beyond this would have been to keep an eye on the water levels as well as the plates on the table given the table size can accommodate only so many plates at a given time. Otherwise, service - 9/10.
Overall this was an enjoyable meal experience - with a few course corrections this can become a top-tier place to visit for locals and out-of-towners alike looking for tapas in the area. I would definitely be open to a return visit to check out the paella and scallop options given the...
Read moreWent to try this place on a whim. The last Tapas I had the service was horrible the food "so so" now I was hoping to enjoy a nice meal.
The location is easy to drive by so I recommend using maps. There is a lot of parking off the main street if you just go to the front doors you'll see a lot of open spaces.
The atmosphere is really nice, cozy, warm and inviting. The hostess greeted us with a smile and sat us at the bar.
First ordered EMBUTIDOS Y QUESO with prosciutto, Valdeon Blue and Six Month Manchego cheese. Everything on the plate was fresh with great flavors, the cheese smooth, not sharp, no bite. The prosciutto flavor was mellow, no bad salty bite. Perfect.
Then we ordered the Coal Roasted Beets! Wow! Love the mint and goat cheese together. Everyone bite was pleasing. The goat cheese didn't overpower the bites and beets were perfectly soft. What a dish!
Next the Crispy Calamari, OMG! Perfect breading, light, crispy and flavorful. Did not take away from the calamari one bit. The calamari was tender, perfect, not chewy. I loved the Jalapeno fried chips that came with it. They too were perfectly breaded and flavored
Finally we had the wood fire grille skirt steak. YUMMY! Love the marinate! That it what you expect from Spanish Tapas, that sauce I could pour over anything! The skirt steak had amazing flavors, juicy, tender and cooked to a perfect medium.
Overall the food was perfect, everything we ordered and every bite we had. The service was quick and timely. Why not 5 stars instead of 4? We sat at the bar and the bar tender who was two feet away we had to wave our hands to get his attention more that once. Not a bad thing but not good either. He was more occupied telling stories to another couple, probably regulars than checking on customers.
The building is handicap accessible, open spaces to move around and easy access to rest rooms. There is also a nice covered patio for seating.
Will I go back again? Absolutely. This is my new...
Read moreNOT GOOD! The sangria was like drinking boxed wine and it was watered down. Based on the taste, the bartender must have added other liquors to elevate it before it came to the table, it was not good. The bread had little drips of olive oil on it, it was still dry. We asked for oil or butter. It was weird because the waiter had no clue on how it worked to get oil or butter. We eventually received the butter. The chicken skewers were great. The wait to get the awful Spanish rice was ridiculous. The delay to get the rice was inexcusable. The Spanish rice was like eating boxed rice with the fake seasoning. It was as if the rice was sitting in water and when it came to the table, it was bland. The meatballs were just clumps of ground beef, no real seasoning. There was NO salt and pepper on the table. The steak was good. Our WAITER started off great but he never checked in to ask how we were doing. When we were clearly done and needed the check, our waiter went and sat down with another table and had a full blown conversation. WE WERE CLEARLY DONE EATING! We had to go and get another employee to give us the check. We will not return. The delays were very present. We had ordered another lemonade while trying to navigate through the food, it never came. Not sure if we were charged for it, but it never came. Had the waiter given better service, he would have received a MUCH better tip. Everyone should receive quality service. The hostesses were welcoming, displayed great energy and were professional. We will not return nor recommend this restaurant.... I purposely did not include the name of the waiter in hopes management will provide extended training to the waiters. And, training on timing of food coming from the kitchen to customers. Lastly, taste the rice before sending it out to customers. Upon entering this restaurant, one would think that they would get a great level of service and food. That was not...
