Spirited Boutiques — Local services in Alpharetta

Today (March 1 at around 2:45 PM) my friend and I were in Alpharetta catching up over lunch and decided to walk around afterward. We came across Spirited Boutiques because it reminded us of another store we like, so we decided to go in.

As soon as we walked in, we immediately noticed that we were the only Black customers there. Everyone else was white. No one greeted us, but we brushed it off and kept looking around.

A few minutes later, a younger employee noticed us and approached with a basket of coupons, telling us we could each take one to use if we decided to buy something.

A few moments later, another employee, the same one who saw us when we first walked in but did not acknowledge us, essentially snatched the basket away from her co-worker without saying anything, which I found to be impolite and unprofessional. She also did not acknowledge my friend and me at all. Instead, she immediately turned to assist another customer and offered them a coupon.

The interaction felt dismissive and unwelcoming. We decided to leave because the atmosphere did not feel inviting.

Experiences like this are why some Black shoppers feel hesitant to visit stores in predominantly white areas. When certain customers are acknowledged while others are disregarded, it creates an environment where some feel less welcome.

We came in expecting a pleasant shopping experience but left feeling...

I visited the store in search of a bohemian-style dress for a wedding, but upon entering, I was met with an unfriendly atmosphere. Despite making eye contact with two employees, I received no greeting or smile, which felt unusual. Furthermore, one employee proceeded to follow me throughout the store, prompting me to leave. I am uncertain whether my appearance, having sweated after walking around the farmers market, contributed to the unwelcoming experience. Nevertheless, the encounter was decidedly uncomfortable. On a positive note, the store offered a lovely selection of dresses with a pleasing variety. However, the discomfort I felt led me to not want to continue...

Another lovely boutique on Main Street. The young girls who work here are always helpful & pleasant. I love the way the jeans fit here. They also have dresses of all sorts. They have a lot of styles that come from free people. They also sell hats and handmade jewelry as well as soaps, candles, & room sprays. The only thing I wish they could work on would be having larger sizes available. Not everyone can fit 24-30. Once they have larger sizes available I would definitely frequent here more often.
