Review of NFA Burgers – Avalon Location
I’ve been wanting to try NFA Burgers for a while, having heard so much about their reputation at the original Dunwoody location. So when they opened at the Avalon, I was genuinely excited to finally give it a shot. I also understood this new location might need some time to work out the kinks, especially during the early days.
We arrived to find a line of people waiting to order, and it took us about 15 minutes to get to the register. During that time, we noticed that many guests who had already ordered were still waiting quite a while for their food. That didn’t bother us much at first—we were still optimistic.
After placing our order, we had to hunt for a table. A few tables were empty but hadn’t been cleared, with used baskets and trash left behind. A simple solution would be to encourage guests to bus their own tables or have staff sweep through more frequently. I ended up cleaning a table myself so my wife and I could sit down.
As we settled in, a friendly couple next to us mentioned they had already been waiting 45 minutes for their food. We stayed positive and hoped our experience would be smoother. Unfortunately, 45 minutes later, our order was finally ready—and that’s when the excitement started to fade.
I ordered the classic double, which I had high hopes for, but it was unfortunately overcooked to the point of being dry and crunchy. The fries and tots were average at best. My canned Coke was warm by the time I got to it, and the portion of sauce provided was minimal—barely a tablespoon’s worth.
To be fair, I understand this is a new location, and there’s always a learning curve. But NFA as a brand is not new, and with such a strong following, expectations are naturally higher. I’ve passed on trying their Braves Stadium location because I know third-party vendors often impact consistency—and unfortunately, my first in-person visit didn’t live up to the hype.
That said, I’m still giving this visit 3 stars. I appreciate that they’re getting up and running, and I’m hopeful that with time, the team can improve speed, consistency, and overall guest experience. I’d be willing to give them another shot in a few months—but for now, I’m not in a...
Read moreUpdates: I have made edits to my review after seeing a response from the business owner. Any perceived "attacks" on staff members are made from whole cloth by the business owner, as a customer I was nothing but pleasant and took no issue with how the business is run - I'm also entitled to my opinion on what is expensive.
I edited my review to take out that the beer was not full. The image I posted shows a 3/4 full plastic cup. I was made aware today, August 3, that the restaurant only serves canned beer, I received a plastic cup with beer in it and had not thought about it being poured from a can.
I edited my review to refer to the service as limited as someone did bring the tray to the table and clear the table.
I edited my review to note that I did not realize a single was a child's meal - perhaps I misread or overlooked the size of the burger. The size, 2.75 ounces is written on the menu – but you do need the double to have more than a McDonalds Quarter Pounder (4 ounces).
The business owner states I was contacted twice - it wasn't by email as far as I can see, and I don't answer random phone calls.
Do these updates change the score from a 3? No, it does not, it's still an expensive place for a hamburger meal. A score of 3 is average.
Did I "attack" an employee in my original review, no, I commented that the iPad on which orders are taken, presents tipping options, which I feel are inflated. You order as you enter and for limited service you’re confronted with 18%, 20%, and 25% recommended tipping options.
As I reread and retype portions of my review, I still feel that $67 for four people to have hamburgers, cokes and one can of Coors is expensive.
The patties are among the smallest I’ve seen at 2.75 ounces, make sure you get the double.

Read moreIt’s great having NFA Burger in Avalon. The staff is really friendly, Shout Out Sade, Zach, and Harrison. You all are a big part of the reason I’m giving this place 5 Stars. You make a fella feel like a valued customer and that’s RARE most places. It’s much appreciated.
As for the food/dining related ratings, as you would expect, the dining area is nice and it a great place to hang out and grab a bite. Really nice bar area with a number of big screens and indoor/outdoor seating options are plentiful.
Maybe most importantly, the Burgers are EXCELLENT! I have gotten the Classic Double several times and it does not disappoint. The Burger has a nice charred crust and a great flavor. There’s a reason NFA has such a huge following. This Burger just has a certain something about it. Hard for me to put into words. If I had to say anything I would just say “It’s LEGIT”.Fries have a nice seasoning on them and the Sassy Sauce is a good pairing.
Maybe the next best thing to the Burger is the Shake! Really thick and just the right amount of chocolate. I should have taken a pic of some of this for the review, but I straight up devoured everything and taking pics of food is not for me.
Lastly, be mindful, this place gets BUSY!!! I’ve gone three times and twice the wait was in the 15-20 minute range, but that’s the way it works when you choose to get a better Burger than something at a fast food joint.
One thing I wonder about is if they will expose online ordering in the future. Not a big deal though either way. I got no complaints.
