Café Intermezzo has an absolutely glamorous atmosphere and very delectable breakfast/brunch options of a few different European and American styles. Although portion sizes for several dishes and drinks may be overpriced, the quality usually makes up for it. The presentation on the drinks and dishes is organized and well presented. I can't vouch for any espresso drinks since I don't drink any but my family members that do drink them enjoy drinking here. This is one of my family's favorite breakfast spots but it can be really hard to find tables to sit at since it is quite popular in that area and the building is rather small. If you're willing to pay some extra amount of money for good food, I definitely recommend it.
Croque monsieur 5/5- the best croque monsieur i have ever had. They really do prepare the food well whereas other restaurants just slap on ingredients without seasoning them. The ham was pan fried and seasoned beautifully enough to give it's delicious taste at every bite. The béchamel sauce was not too salty and was plentiful for the sandwich. The savory Swiss cheese flavor is very noticeable. You can taste all the necessary flavors on every bite and that's why it's really the best I have ever had. The rosemary potatoes that come alongside it are so delightful. They have heavy herb flavors and are pan fried to perfection, leaving a crunchy fried texture on them. They're truly on my top list of potatoes I have been served. They used to have a croque madame in the menu, but they took it off. Just ask for an egg on top and you'll have the same sandwich, though a bit more expensive than before.
Chicken florentine crêpe 4/5- very flavorful and creamy sauce. The chicken is seasoned with herbs and a good amount of pepper, which is definitely noticeable. It is quite a large portion as well. All of the ingredients complement each other well and you can taste each ingredient.
Belgian waffles 5/5 - the best belgian waffles I have ever had. I was surprised at how delicious they were. The outside crust was crunchy and actually had like a caramelized texture. The small bits of sugar that were sprinkled on the waffle really added even more texture.
Tomato basil pasta 1/5 - extremely disappointing. It was horribly bland. It tastes as if they mixed water with tomato sauce and served that. It all seemed like a soup instead of a pasta dish. I would stay away from this dish. There are numerous better dishes offered here. I feel that the breakfast dishes are far...
Read moreCafé Inter-what-a-mess-o Zero stars should be an option. We walked up to the café entrance and asked for a table and a “man” with shaved hair on his sides and glasses told us they just filled the last table but we would be next up. He then told us to just wait off to the side outside of the entrance. After waiting for about 10 minutes (mostly standing right next to him during this time) outside (temperature is dropping) with a couple of people in our party in their 80’s he motions to us to head on in and follow. We walk in and then find ourselves standing in the middle of the café with no one attending to us. I then walk over to him and ask him who are we supposed to follow after which he says: You were waiting in the to go line!!! Say what!? I told him when we walked in we asked for a table which he tells us we would be next AND he was the one that told us where to stand and wait. He then proceeds in an argumentative fashion with an elevated voice talking super fast telling me that I am wrong repeating over and over saying we were not on the waiting list to be seated and that he'd "gladly" put our name on the list. Do you not understand, telling me you'd "gladly" put me on the waiting list after you wasted my family's time as we shivered outside, then argued with me is like rubbing salt in a wound? To the managers, GMs and owner(s) of Café Intermezzo, when you hire an employee that is always focused inward, not perceptive of his surroundings/situation and tries to point the finger at the customer and takes no responsibility you get furious customers. I will "gladly" NEVER set foot anywhere near your establishment. I will "gladly" share my experience whenever and wherever I can. As a business owner I would hate to think of people visiting and leaving furious as this is everlasting negative marketing that you can't do...
Read moreReturned for our annual New Year's Eve treat at Avalon location. Unfortunately, the host staff made it impossible to feel welcomed. We arrived 1.5 hours before closing and waited exactly 4 minutes to be greeted. When a family of 3 (2 parents with small child) were stuck outside in the cold, my partner and I made room for them to tuck into the enclosed host stand area. The first host finally arrived and greeted them first. They directed their attention to us informing them that we had arrived before them.
But that host went away. Then, another (different) host returned and once again addressed that family not us. The family was added to the wait-list but were told seating would "not be guaranteed" and the wait was an hour and 15 minutes. The tone was off and unwelcoming. My partner and I decided to opt for a to-go item since host team was terrible and unorganized and since the wait time was so high. I entered into the restaurant dining area with intentions to move toward the bar. But I was rudely loud-mouthed by the host to return to the cold outside as "there was limited spacing." There was plenty of room to spare in the bar queue area with only 4 other people there waiting. I pushed back, and she once again raised her voice and offered no other solution or options but to wait for undetermined time outside.
I'm not sure what stressors this team is under at this location but they've got to get the host team together. It's unacceptable service. Regardless of the volume, guest like us are aware and full of grace and understanding. We are patient and appreciative. Host team should act in a similar manner. We will not be back nor will we recommend Avalon. There goes that tradition down the drain.
