Knickerbocker Tavern — Restaurant in Altoona

Very disappointing experience. We were in town visiting family and wanted to try a local place instead of a chain restaurant. We chose Knickerbocker Tavern based on the Google reviews. Our party of 7 arrived around 5:30pm on Saturday 8/21/21 and were seated in a very hot dining room. We hoped the air would kick in, sadly it did not. We were greeted by our waiter who's name I didn't catch (our receipt days Leiden was the cashier) After bringing the menus he proceeded to tell us none of the large plate items were available and the hummus was also not available. We attempted to order apple juice and root beer for 2 members of our party and sadly those items were also unavailable. We decided on a few appetizers and had those put in, we also had a kids grilled cheese meal put in first hoping it would come out with the apps, but sadly it did not. The appetizers were delicious, we had fried pickles and brisket Mac n cheese. Cutlery was not provided for the table only for the 2 people eating Mac n cheese which I found quite odd, but maybe it's a restaurant rule. We placed our entree order and then we waited ... once the food finally came out we were hit with another disappointment. Myself and 1 other person order the Cuban sandwich, one Cubans came out cold and the other was just above room temperature. We decided we were too hot and uncomfortable to wait for another sandwich to be made so we shared 1 order and asked for the other to be taken from the table and removed from our bill which our waiter graciously did. The kids grilled cheese was last to arrive at the table, but luckily it was warm.Other than the Cubans, everyone else enjoyed their meal. Our waiter was very nice and I don't blame him for the faults in the food as he was not the cook. Toward the end of our meal we experienced hearing another server loudly using profanity(the F word)  from the other room on 2 occasions, that was very disrespectful to the patrons especially having children in our party hearing that yelled in a restaurant. I think the owner needs to have a conversation with the staff about the loud complaining about how much they don't want to work and using loud profanity. It's very unfortunate we had this type of experience as we prefer to support local establishments...

I just Edited my origional review to give extra stars and credit do to the fact that I am impressed that the owner reached out to me Immediately After my review, showing they really care about their business and guests being satisfied. They took proper steps correcting the areas of my dissatisfaction. Wish I was closer to try them again. Little long waiting for food, drinks and refills. You get alot as far as food. Chicken sandwich was beyond huge and the Wings are big and tasty. If you like wings go here!! Fries were oil sponges though. Not saying oil was old but usually that's what causes them. ( Been Addressed) Seating is deceiving - place is very small when you walk inside, We started to walk out as all we saw were booths for party of 4 and bar seating. We had a party of 8, When we started to leave we were told they have more seating room in the back and outside which is kind of Cozy, we liked the fresh Bazel plant and tomatto plants around paremitor plus the flower plants. Outdoors is always fun seating to us. You can see they took extra steps to make your visit as pleasent as posible. The Alcohol drinks I saw coming out looked beyond amazing. We waited a while just to pay our tab after bill came but I see that everywere lately. If you just wanna have fun in the sun and enjoy a Alcohol refreshment I strongly suggest you come to this place again they looked amazing and from what I was told by other customers they taste far better than they look cause yes I asked. Too bad I was on Meds or I would have sampled a few for sure. Yes I'd go back for sure. Anyone who reaches out right away to address dissatisfactions to correct issues will always grow and just get better and better beating out any...

This was absolutely the worst SERVICE !!! And very poor food that was barely palatable.

Let's start this dismal Journey. We walked into the restaurant not even to be greeted , found a booth to sit in next to bar. Bartender did not acknowledge us at all , waitresses saw us sit down and did not even address us , another couple was greeted and was escorted to the booth next to us , another couple then was greeted and sat down from us. At this point we are a good 10 minutes in with no acknowledgement or would you like some water. We finally had to ask the server from some water. The waitresses finally came over to our table and handed us menus and asked for anything to drink. We did order some beverages and were looking at menu. When she returned with drinks she asked if we were ready to order and we said yes , she then turned around went to other Table and promptly took the other booth's order and got them their drinks , after delivering those items , she went to other table and took there order and got them drinks !!!!! ABOUSLETY UNBELIEVABLE!!!! She then came back to or table and asked if we were ready to order !!!! Yes we ordered the Crab Eggs Benedict the brunch special.

Now the Food ! Over Cooked English Muffin Over Cooked / Hard Poached Egg Very Minimal Hollandaise Sauce on top of English Muffin Crunchy Over Cooked Potatoes Amazing Burnt Onions

Every thing about this experience was Horrible and Insulting !!!

Is this because my Colleague is is of 🇮🇳 Indian descent and is brown ???? This was a form of Racsism that I thought I would ever see. I wonder if it would have been Just me what the outcome would of been ????

I will never return to this...
