My husband and I had dinner here for our one year wedding anniversary and we were BLOWN AWAY by the service, food/drinks, and overall vibe.
The first thing we noticed at our table was a card that said “happy anniversary” with personal notes from people who work at O-Ku. We were soon greeted by William C. (our OUTSTANDING waiter). He was super friendly and knowledgeable about everything on the menu.
To start, we ordered two plates that were recommended to us (the otoro spoons and sake dreams nigiri - both were AMAZING!) and to our surprise, a third plate (rock shrimp - also yummy) was placed on our table as a gift from the waiter.
My husband and I both ordered two drinks (love hotel, ichu, ume-boshi, and sugar and spice - all DELISH!)
The restaurant was understandably very busy on a Saturday night so our rolls took a minute to arrive — but we were too busy enjoying ourselves to notice how much time had passed until a kind lady approached us and gave an update and apology for the wait.
Soon after the sushi arrived (Oceanside, Blazing Saddles, and Fuego - all incredible), our waiter brought back a side of ponzu (per his recommendation) to dip our rolls in and WOW it was a game changer! 🤤
Lastly, we ordered dessert. There were 3 kinds of mochi to choose from and you can pick 2, so I asked William to give me his top favorites. To our surprise, he brought back all 3 AND a massive scoop of ube ice cream with white chocolate on top. It was the BEST.
If you’re on the fence about celebrating a special occasion here, take this as your sign to DO IT! Every bit of our experience was impeccable and it will be a treasured memory for my husband and I forever. Thank you so much,...
Read moreMe and my wife came to O-Ku for our 5th wedding anniversary. About a year ago we actually went to Japan, and my wife loves sushi.
I have honestly never really liked sushi before. The textures and the flavors have never really agreed with me. I decided that if I was ever going to find out if I actually liked sushi, I would have to go to a nicer sushi restaurant.
When we entered the restaurant the hostess was busy working with a different group, and one of the wait staff very promptly grabbed us a table and a menu. She also noticed that in our reservation we were on an anniversary dinner and congratulated us.
The menus were beautiful, but as somebody who doesn't eat sushi I was very intimidated. Very shortly, our waiter came over, her name was Christina. I explained my predicament to her and she went through the menu and explained all of it to me and made some recommendations.
We had maguro tataki, pork belly buns, and the crispy rice to start with.
Then we had the Kobe Style Nigiri. This is one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life, I wouldn't have even known to have tried it.
For our main items we ate the El jefe and the electric eel roll. We also got two different soft serve ice creams, the ube and the soy vanilla.
We got to meet one of the chefs who made sure that we were enjoying our meal, and we also got to meet the main manager of the restaurant Gabby.
As someone who has never eaten in a restaurant that had multiple options for water, they made me and my wife's 5th anniversary very special, and I can confidently say that I enjoy sushi now. Thank you Gabby, Christina, and the whole crew at O-Ku. You have made a pair of...
Read moreWhere do I even start. This was my first time at an O-Ku and I went with family for my birthday. I was expecting about as much as you would at any other restaurant for this occasion, but boy did they go above and beyond. I was initially greated with a framed 'happy birthday' card themed to some of my hobbies (they called ahead to one of my family members to find out) and then went even further above and beyond with a brand new Wilson outdoor volleyball sitting there as a gift. I haven't even begun on the food. Every bite was delicious, not a single complaint on the food. The roasted Corn and the Fuego were a favorite of mine. But seriously it was all so good. Extremely accommodating to my shrimp allergy and the gluten allergy of another member. Everything is brought out as it's ready so you're always getting the food fresh. No sitting under heat lamps. I personally got a little bit of everything from different sections cause you know, when in Rome. Service was top teir, every worker was busy, seemed genuinely concerned with your experience and very knowledgeable of their menu. Our server, Lee, was a master of his craft and potentially one of the most generous servers I've ever had at a restaurant. When I say the whole team went above and beyond I mean it without any BS. This particular O-ku has now become a family favorite and will likely see many birthdays from my family. I sincerely look forward to eating here again. Thank you O-Ku team for a great birthday experience. A well...
