One dark and stormy night we visited Blue Sky as we were traveling from the west to the east coast. As we stood in line studying the menu, a local mentioned to us that "everything is good here." She said she especially likes the cheeseburger with green chilies, so that is what I ordered. My wife ordered a cheeseburger with chili, and we also got a combination shoestring fries/onion rings basket and two large drinks. Now, let me tell you about the drinks. Blue Sky has a good variety of soft drinks (and beer), but the thing that caught our eye was the iced tea. Adjacent to the soft drink machine were eight dispensers lined up, each containing a different variety of iced tea. Yes, eight varieties of freshly brewed tea! Who does that? I got the coconut iced tea and my wife tried the peach iced tea. Both were delicious! I had never tasted coconut iced tea before, and I found it to be quite refreshing! We sat down at one of the tables (the place was busy, but there are a lot of booths and tables available, so finding a seat was not a problem). A few minutes later our number appeared on a "serving now" screen and we picked up our order. The burgers feature 100% ground chuck, and they tasted as good as they looked. Both the green chilies and the red chili complimented the burgers nicely. Everything on the burgers was fresh and of the highest quality. The shoestring potatoes were tasty, although I prefer a fry with a little more crunch, but we both loved the onion rings! They appear to be hand breaded, and the crunchy exterior around the perfectly cooked onions could not have been tastier! Blue Sky has lots more to offer besides burgers, including salads, hot dogs, sandwiches, chicken tenders, and tons of appetizers. We also saw a couple shakes that another table had ordered and they looked like they came from a 1950s soda fountain, hand blended and topped with a generous helping of whipped cream and a cherry. We loved our visit, and my only regret is that there isn't a Blue Sky anywhere near...
Read moreI'm really, really confused by the good rating of this place. Is this what people around here think is good food? It was the most bland hamburger, fries & onion rings I've had in a very long time. On top of that, they're apparently ran so poorly that it's going to be cold if you get takeout.
I ordered food over the phone, and got there about 5 minutes before my pickup time. They have a drive-through window, but it seems that if someone shows up before their food is ready, they just have them sit there until it is ready, causing a long backup of cars waiting for food that probably showed up at the right time. I was one of those cars, and waited about 20 minutes to get my food, so I ended up at the window 15 minutes after my pickup time. I would have gone inside, but was given no direction when I ordered on what they wanted, and it seemed the window was the only option.
So, the food was cold when I was able to finally eat it. Even ignoring that it was cold, it was flavorless. I ordered a cheeseburger and a "half & half" (onion rings & fries). There were two flavors in all of this - mustard and onion. The cheeseburger was completely flavorless aside from the taste of yellow mustard (I'm not complaining about the mustard taste, I like mustard, but there should be other flavors). The fries were completely flavorless, and the onion rings had some taste of onion, but the batter was completely bland.
I don't get how this is such a popular place, and it put me off trying to eat local for the rest...
Read moreWas dying for a burger and not really wanting a chain. Took a shot on blue sky.
I was in a hurry but man I wish I had sat down. The atmosphere inside is super chill. They have a huge selection of self serve drinks and good country music playing.
I purchased the double bacon cheeseburger and the mix of onion rings and fries.
Here is also where I would recommend just sitting down and eating.
Everything was perfect. I was 20 minutes away from my hotel and by the time I checked in and got settled down the fries and rings were already getting cold. Not the restaurants fault. A learning opportunity for me.
Overall quality was excellent. Burger patty was salty alone but when it all went together it was perfect. They use the potato buns (I think) so it’s a toasted sweetness to go with the salty
The staff was amazing. I watched a lady in front of me get upset about paying for fried onions on her hamburger. The cashier apologized to the best of her ability but this customer was just not letting it go. Held up my order for 15 minutes so she could complain. All for onions. I personally would not have been so kind. When it was my turn the cashier did not even let the prior exchange phase her. Was joyful and kind while helping me make up my mind on what literally is I want one of everything on the menu kind of scenario.
Clean Kind Amazing quality Great atmosphere
And even better…. Cheaper than a footlong at a sandwich restaurant.
Overall very satisfied. Will make this my regular stop...
