I've been here three times now with different people and the food and drinks are consistently good. The atmosphere is also very welcoming, and all of the staff except one bartender in particular are very kind and helpful. I worked in a customer service job for 5 years and I am not normally one to call out individual employees based on service, but this is an exception. Out of the three times I've been here, I have observed extremely rude behavior from that said bartender on two of those occasions and the one night I did not observe it, it was because there was a different bartender there who was very helpful and kind. On the first occasion, the other bartender accidentally opened two separate tabs under my friends name instead of just one, so when my friend paid his tab he only paid one because he was genuinely unaware of the second one. The rude bartender got MY attention, (not my friend's attention) and pointed out that he still had not paid his tab. My friend was rightfully confused and explained to the bartender that he had already paid, to which the bartender very bluntly and rudely insisted that he still had a tab open, not even attempting to sound courteous. When my friend realized the mistake, he gladly paid, however the bartender never apologized for assuming that my friend was trying to be sleazy and being rude. On the second occasion, I took my parents out for dinner here because I remembered how good the food and drinks were. It happened to be super bowl sunday, which the brewery has different hours for then normal sundays. I did not realize this and we showed up fairly close to closing, to which the bartender, at first kindly, let us know that they could still serve us but that they were closing soon. My mom did not hear him and asked him politely if they could still serve us to which he replied, in an extremely rude tone of voice, "as I said before". They have an overall good thing going here and I would hate to see it hindered by the behavior of one employee. It can really make or break...
Read moreTannery Run is the newest edition to the growing bar / restaurant scene in downtown Ambler. Named after the creek that runs under the majority of Ambler Tannery Run is a great addition to Ambler. Its the 2nd brewery to open up in town after the pioneer Forest and Main.
Tannery is located at the upper end of Butler Ave between Vida and Comida and Deterra. As you walk in a large bar lines the left side wall and a large open seating area occupies the right side of the building. A glass wall encloses some of their brewing equipment just past the end of the bar. The decor has a modern industrial feel with mostly darker shades. I'm a woodworker so I really appreciated the pyrography on the wooden bar top. Pyrography is basically burning designs into wood.
My friend and I had stopped in to grab lunch and a few beers. We had one of their IPA's and Belgian Triple. Both beers were very good and the Belgian, which is my favorite style was fantastic!
The vibe at Tannery Run is very chill and laid back. Its a great spot to grab a few beers and hang out with friends.
As I wrote earlier we really stopped in to grab lunch. Personally I feel the menu seems a bit out of touch for a brewery. There were some vegan options, flat breads, chili, tacos etc.. Gina Cavalier is a well traveled Chef and worked at the French Laundry so I'm sure the menu items were good but they didn't appeal to either of us. If we wanted tacos we would have grabbed them for $2.75 at El Limon and with the numerous pizza spots in Ambler flat breads are nothing unique. This menu reminds me of something I would see in a main line coffee shop not a brewery in a Ambler. We opted to walk next door to the Lucky Well to have a burger and fries.
I will definitely be back to try more beers because I really enjoyed them. I gave Tannery 3 stars ( A ok) because its a cool spot. For me 4 or 5 stars are reserved for businesses that are doing everything way above average and don't have much room for...
Read moreAs someone who works in hospitality and comes from the restaurant industry, I always try to lead with empathy—I know how challenging this work can be. I’d even understand if the bartender had been in the weeds when we arrived, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. She was standing there with no other guests in front of her, yet greeted us with no words or warmth, making us feel unwelcome from the start.
When I asked if I could have my drink without the rocks, she replied, “It doesn’t come on the rocks,” in a condescending tone. I clarified, asking if it was served “up” like a martini, and again, she responded with unnecessary attitude. She never came back to check on us. Thankfully, a different bartender stepped in to serve our second round—he was polite, friendly, and really turned things around.
At the end, when I asked for the check because we were splitting the bill, she appeared visibly annoyed. Despite the poor service, we still tipped 20% because I understand the standard—but frankly, it wasn’t earned.
I frequent this area often and have never had a negative experience until now. I can’t say for sure whether her behavior was personal, racially biased, or just a reflection of someone who shouldn’t be in this line of work—but either way, it left a bad taste. The cocktails were great, but the service has made it a place I won’t return to. I wish I had caught her name—she had dark hair with reddish ends and tattoos—for the sake of giving more...
