This was my first time eating here. Based on my outstanding meal, it won't be the last. I've been to alot of Mexican restaurants. I was stationed in Texas twice at FT Hood. Needless to say that Texas and California are the benchmarks for great Mexican cuisine. The Cantina Felix should be considered a benchmark setter in the Mid Alantic. To start with the staff was outstanding. They combine to make for a great dining experience. As for the meals, I do have a favorite place for guacamole on the East Coast. For many years they set the bar for great guacamole until surpassed today by Cantina Feliz. They have several types. On the recommendation of our excellent waiter, we tried the one with bits of corn. Wow was all I could say. Actually, I could have had about 4 bowls of that and considered it a meal. On another recommendation I tried the chicken enchiladas. They were ranked within the top 2 percent of any I have had before. Extremely tasty and well prepared. The deserts were tiramisu and their version of a hot fudge Sunday. Now they were good but not outstanding like the appetizers or the main course. To be honest I was so in bliss over the main course, I didn't pay that much attention to the dessert anyway. I will say this in closing, one would be hard pressed to match Cantina Feliz in terms of...

On Saturday night June 26th, we visited with 2 other couples hoping for some good Mexican specialities, well that was our first mistake. Read the menu before heading to this spot.
Three of us ordered the ceviche, while plentiful with shrimp it was void of any taste or creativity! The ceviche was served in a small soup bowl, the shrimp was swimming in tomato juice, no spices, no chilies, no cilantro, no onion, no avocado, no, no,no! You get the idea.
When a number of our party expressed to our server they were not sure what to have our server immediately responded with Chick-Feliz so they went along with the suggestion. When these 3 dishes arrived you could not find the Chicken amidst the overly bountiful portion of rice and refried beans and when you found a piece of chicken it was no larger than a nickel and over fried.
The only memorable item was the guacamole esquites, and only for the roasted corn, it was enjoyable but I could make it at home by adding roasted corn to my own guacamole!
There are plenty of other Mexican restaurants, so I suggest you take your time and evaluate your options. In my case this was a recommendation one of our party received...
Read moreUPDATE - MEH We went back again for a Saturday night dinner with friends on 4/19. Overall I am unimpressed with the food. I ordered the brisket enchiladas and all I can say is “where’s the beef”? Amazingly skimpy portion of brisket and the enchiladas were just lacking any substance. Huge disappointment. My wife had the steak al carbon tacos and the meat was un-chewable. The only highlight was the Patron Margarita. Service was good. Restaurant is noisy.
We dined here on a Saturday night. Parking in Ambler can be a challenge but I managed to get a spot on the street with a meter. Parking is free after 6 PM on Saturday. The menu is not huge with some solid offerings and decent selection. I had the Black Bass which was very tasty. My wife had the Chicken Al Carbon tacos and it was a disappointment. it was very bland and presentation was meh. I also had their version of a Manhattan cocktail and it was very good. Highly recommend the Esquites guac, it was delicious and the chips were spot on. Service was attentive, not intrusive and helpful. Overall, I would go back and not hesitate to...
