Ambler Theater — Local services in Ambler

We go there about one or two times a month. The senior discount allows us very senior people with limited means this opportunity. The viewing rooms vary in size, but all three offer good views and good sound an comfortable seats, There are frequently special showing events of classic films or filmed theatrical productions going on in addition to three or four selectively chosen main features. The theater attracts a clientele who often take advantage of Ambler businesses, particularly the spectrum of eating spots from simple to pricey. There is a refreshment counter, but we do not afford ourselves the luxury. Parking in Ambler can be tough at times, but there are free spaces in the evening and on weekends. Metered parking nearby runs about a dollar an hour. A relatively new Ambler shuttle runs from the Septa regional rail station to several locations on Butler Avenue. On our 25th date, I took my sweetheart to Ambler Theater. I don't think he's a big movie buff, but we had cabin fever from all the single-digit temps and snow and were trying to take a break from eating out, so I suggested the theater. Also, I wanted him to see how cute Ambler is.

We went to the Sunday matinee, and because my sweetheart qualified for Medicare, I figured he qualified for the senior priced ticket, which made him a very cheap date! Everyone else in the theater appeared to be old-heads, like ourselves, enjoying a bit of nostalgia while watching "A Complete Unknown" about Bob Dylan.

A cousin of mine had worked as an extra in the film, and although his scene didn't make the final cut, I wanted to see the film so that I could talk about it with him. My sweetheart grew up listening to the folksingers of the 60s and 70s, so we had a lot to talk about during...

I grew up in Ambler, but now live in Seattle. I have very fond memories of the Ambler Theater. I spent many Saturday afternoons there, paying 35 cents for the weekly Three Stooges, Mothra, Gorgo or other B grade Sci Fi fair. It was in bad shape then and eventually was purchased by a Christian group that showed...well, they showed Christian films. By that time, with infrastructure failing, it looked bad for the theater's future. The Theater is now a restored gem, though the main house has been sub-divided into three theaters...necessary, I suppose for keeping the wolves away, but considering the beauty of the original interior, a shame. I tip my hat to the new owners for creating a wonderful civic...
