Hedgehog General Store — Restaurant in Amesbury

I really wanted to love this place, but unfortunately, my first visit will likely be my last. The store itself is beautiful, and there’s plenty of parking, which is a plus. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon to check it out, but the experience left me disappointed.

When my 3-year-old and I walked in, we entered a very small space where three young employees were chatting at the counter. Not one of them looked up or greeted us. As we browsed the milk section, I heard laughter and looked up to find all three employees staring at us—only for them to quickly look away when I made eye contact. Whether or not they were talking about us, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming.

Despite the discomfort, I continued shopping. Some of the meats seemed fairly priced, but $23 for two chicken cordon bleu felt excessive.

I truly hope the owners take the time to train their staff in customer service and friendliness, especially in such a small community where a warm welcome can make all...

no offense, but this place is a complete downgrade from the old store. seriously the old store was amazing, why did you get rid of it? it had an old fashion building, more stuff a soda shop and an ice cream parlor… and you got rid of all that for a bakery? massachusetts already has hundreds of those. the old hedgehog building had more character and nostalgia. but this place has nothing atmospheric about it and has absolutely noting in its store compared to its old place. seriously ever heard of “if it ain’t broke dont fix it”? the old place also had a store with lots of goodies and stuff to buy but no its all gone. honestly I could forgive ALL that… if they just atleast brought back the soda fountain and ice cream parlor…and even those biscotti’s.. sorry not trying to be mean, but this place was a downgrade.. lost all atmosphere and everything that made the old...

One of my favorite shops in Amesbury! They have awesome food and a great atmosphere. The build your own sandwiches are my favorite, they don’t skimp on the fillings and everything is fresh and delicious. They have different shopping events and live music periodically as well. They have a meat counter as well as other dips, chips, cheeses and an assortment of other goodies. Within walking distance of downtown Amesbury, they are definitely a must visit...
