A few days ago, I visited this restaurant that serves Romanian food. While the food was good, it cannot be compared to authentic Romanian cuisine. The biggest problem with this place is that when you ask for the bill, it comes handwritten, which is unacceptable in a civilized country.
My family and I ordered platters, but the waiter did not leave me the menus to check the prices or to see that the 20% tip was mandatory. Additionally, if you're not satisfied with the service and with not realistic pricea, no one should force you to pay a $150 tip, especially when the restaurant itself is outdated, and some of the dishes arrived cold, despite being described as fresh. Furthermore there is no federal law or stat law that forces you to pay any tip.
The issue wasnât the exaggerated prices, but rather that they served large portions, and the quantity didnât match the price. Additionally, I ordered just one portion of soup for two people to taste. The waiter, very kindly, said he would bring one portion but in two small bowls. While the intention was good, in the end, we hat to pay two large portions. These things bothered us â high prices that didnât reflect the amount of food we received.
In the end, the total bill was $720, with $150 being the tip. When we asked the waiter for a detailed bill with prices, he reacted very rudely and quickly wrote down the order on a piece of paper. I've never encountered anything like this in any country, and I didnât expect to experience it in Los Angeles, where you expect a certain level of civility.
Please be cautious and donât let yourself be deceived by this restaurant. We were left with a very bad impression and do not recommend this...

Read moreIf youâre craving authentic Romanian cuisine, look no further than Dunarea in Anaheim! From the moment you walk in, the warm and inviting atmosphere makes you feel right at home. The staff is incredibly attentive, and genuinely passionate about the food they serve.
The menu is a treasure trove of Romanian classics, and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The sarmale (stuffed cabbage rolls) were perfectly seasoned and melted in your mouth, while the mici (grilled sausages) were juicy and full of flavor. Donât miss out on the mamaliga (polenta) or the ciorba de burta (tripe soup) â both were outstanding.
To top it off, their desserts are a must-try. The papanaČi (Romanian donuts) were the perfect ending to an already fantastic meal.
Whether youâre Romanian and feeling nostalgic or just curious to explore this incredible cuisine, Dunarea is a hidden gem you wonât regret visiting. Iâll definitely be...
