Saturday night 8/17/19, visited Mama Cozza's after seeing it on an older episode (2010) of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, a few days before. On the show, the food looked amazing and so I decided it would make a good Italian dinner date night, especially after getting a thumbs up from Guy Fieri. Walking into the restaurant you're greeted by a very nice hostess and a slew of pictures of the many celebrities who have visited the restaurant, including a huge autographed poster of Guy Fieri, making you feel like you made a good decision to dine here. WRONG! I ordered fried zucchini to start and for the main dish I ordered Cioppino which has lobster, shrimp, scallops, mussels, halibut, swordfish, clams, crab legs and slipper tails, in marinara sauce. Served with a salad, side of pasta and bread. The fried zucchini was good served with lukewarm, but tasty marinara sauce. Both my date and I ordered Cesar salad, which was good. The Cioppino was awful! It was VERY watery and VERY fishy smelling appearing more like a seafood soup NOT served in marinara sauce. ALL the seafood in the dish was either dry, rubbery, overcooked and tasted like it was old freezer food and the meat in the crab legs was very stringy and didn't come out of the legs in a whole piece like fresh crab leg meat usually does so I had to use my fingers and fork to get the meat out of the legs. I couldn't tell the difference between the swordfish or the halibut, but either way, all the fish was dry and not flaky, like fresh fish should be. The dish had only 2 scallops in it. The side of pasta was cold and doused with the VERY fishy tasting and lukewarm watery concoction that the seafood was served in. I also ordered an additional side of pasta with Mama's sauce, which also came out cold and the sauce wasn't very good either. In my opinion, the marinara sauce that came with the fried zucchini was better. The bread also came out cold and some of the bread was burned. When I asked for parmesan cheese, to sprinkle on my food, I expected fresh parmesan and not the ground powdery stuff that you can buy off the store shelf. The service was very good though. I was VERY disappointed with the food and will not re-visit or recommend this restaurant to anyone. Instead, in the future I will patronize one of the chain Italian restaurants, which in my opinion have...
Read moreWe arrived around 5pm for dinner did not have a reservation but were able to go right in. Found this place because of food network ahow DDD. The show gave it a great review and I have eaten in other restaurants the show had highly recommended. My first impression of this restaurant was that the dining area was a bit small. There is a lounge attached to the restaurant that seems to be the same size as the dining area. We got there just in time because the restaurant got very busy. We ordered the fried Calimari, fried mozarella cheese along with both onion and minestrone soups that accompanied our entree. The soups were good but not great and the onion soup was a bit salty. We ordered Ciapino, spaghetti with marinara ,mushroom ravioli and spaghetti Alfredo with mushrooms. After ordering the waitress returned and told me Ciapino was not available that night, so had to reorder. I decided on the veal Fellini and when it arrived it ended up being chicken instead of veal even though it tasted good it was not what I ordered. I spoke to the waitress and they recooked my order with the veal. Both dishes tastes good but were nothing to write home about. The ravioli was good and everything tasted fresh, however the marinara was a little bland which was used on all the dishes we ordered. Our waitress was very good but she seemed to be the only that knew what was going on as we asked other staff for information and they answered by saying we will get your waitress for you. We also ordered cheesecake and tiramisu for dessert and they tasted good as well. Overall the total experience was decent the food was OK even though it was a little pricy but tht is normal these days. The restaurant as a whole could definitely benefit from a face-lift. I would not be in a hurry to return anytime soon as I there was no value and the food was only decent. The wait staff took very good care of us which is probably the only plus of our...
Read moreAt the recommendation of a family friend, I was finally able to swing by and have lunch at Momma Cozza’s (MC). I arrived around 11 ish and was instructed by an employee to use the pub/bar entrance for lunch or take out. I walked into the bar side which reminded me of a speak easy out of New York or Brooklyn. I was greeted by Matthew, server, with a warm smile and seated instantly in the bar side which I didn’t mind at all since I was there to sample OS Italian food that I’ve been hearing so much about. Matthew recommended the lunch trio pasta combination that came with either soup or salad. The soup de jour was minestrone but I was in the mood for a salad which was dressed with MC’s homemade ranch. My entrée, garlic bread, and drink were delivered in a timely manner and served HOT! My trio was delicious!!! It was sooo good I texted my kids and asked them what they wanted me to bring home for lunch. One my kids ordered “Make your own pasta - fettuccini with meat and vodka sauce)” which came with a cup of Minestrone soup and my other kids shared a family (giant) size MC special pizza. MC’s cuisine is a RARE in my opinion as the food is all made from SCRATCH! MC is located near the Disney resorts toward Anaheim Packing District. MC has an old world charm, family friendly vibe! You can chose to dine in the bar or restaurant side. MC did NOT disappoint! The VALUE is ridiculously affordable unless you have adult top shelf beverages. The owner Frank Cozza (genuinely a humble business owner/gentleman) stopped by my table to not only thank me for trying out his restaurant but to ask if any improvements could be made. Now if that doesn’t catch you attention, I don’t know what will. I can’t wait to taste taste MC’s Osso Buco Thank you, Mr. Cozza and Matthew for an awesome dining experience (4.5/5). We’ll be back with family and friends for the Osso Buco and Tiramisu. Mangiare...
