The pizza journey continues, the latest stop: Zero Zero 39. Worthy stop.
Food: As always, I qualify by saying the baseline for the review is the cheese slice. Zero Zero 39 is Roman style---for those not familiar, probably most similar to a "Grandma" slice at other places. It was delicious. The dough was very good, nice little crisp on the bottom, very airy and soft in the middle. Solid crust. The sauce was also very good, but the big problem with the sauce is that there was not enough! Normally, I do prefer a little less sauce on a pie, but theirs was good and didn't get to taste it quite enough. The cheese was also strong quality. A very, very good slice. We also got the pepperoni and sausage, which was also very good. In the pizza case were an array of delicious looking pies, I look forward to trying some of their specialties.
Service: Incredibly friendly, but a little slow despite seemingly not being especially bus. No real complaints though--even if a little slow, it wasn't egregious. Great attitudes.
Atmosphere: Located inside the Anaheim Packing House, bustling with energy. Frankly, the atmosphere is great. Only a couple of tables right in front, so you may have to look around for a place to sit, but there are plenty of places. There are even some tables just outside the side door near the restaurant. They have a good, easy setup in their location within the building as well. The positive energy of folks living their best lives within the packing district definitely does help the atmosphere though, everyone is there having a great time. Parking can be a pain here though, that's the biggest problem. The parking garage across Santa Ana St. at city hall is probably the best option most days.
Overall, very good spot, solid 8/10 all around. I look forward to returning to try some specialty pies they have. Good dough, good sauce (use more!), good cheese, good quality, good service, good location, good everything. If I didn't have a strong preference for more like New Haven and NY style pizza, I might think even more highly of the place. It's just good, authentic flavor. Would recommend. There are a lot of good places to eat in the packing district, ignore the distractions when you go and get to...
Read moreI'm a fan of ZeroZero39, which serves Roman-style pizza with a medium-thickness crust and is made with fresh ingredients! Their website explains the reason for the name and what goes into the pizza dough. I've visited this location several times, enjoyed the pizzas, and appreciated the friendly staff.
A few of my favorite pizzas so far are the Truffle Porcini, Mortadella, Hawaiian, and Burrata. The ingredients, sauces, and fresh-made dough work amazingly well. Each slice is cut into two and priced between $5.49 - $8.49. I usually buy two slices, so it gets pricey with a drink, but it's a delicious treat once in a while. My only critique is for the Pepperoni pizza: It's good with the cupped pepperoni, but it needs more!
Salads, desserts, and canned and bottled drinks are also available. It's a relaxing and chill place to grab a meal in the Anaheim Packing District. The lunch atmosphere is quiet and pleasant but gets more active in the evenings and on weekends, with more pizza options....
Read moreMy dreams have come true!!! They opened a ZeroZero39 at the Packing House!! I mean, not that it's opened specifically at the Packing House but rather that it's much closer to where I live than the Main St HB location haha
