If any place in Anderson qualifies for “hidden gem” status it is unquestionably Train Stop.
Before I even get to the quality and taste of the subs I have to mention the owner and his son. Both are unbelievably friendly, personable, and professional stewards of their business. They make good but not overwhelming conversation when you order and make sure you’re getting exactly the sandwich(es) you came for. Any special requests are not only accommodated but welcomed and related back to you to ensure they know what you mean.
When it comes to quality they can’t be beat anywhere in Anderson let alone surrounding areas. I don’t know who they use for their supplier but it far exceeds any of your local delis like pay less or harvest.
I hope that a place that has been in business for 14 years will continue to thrive and serve the Anderson population well, but with the ubiquity of chain restaurants on the south side near the interstate I’m worried that this buried treasure will be covered up and forgotten.

Read moreTrain Stop Deli is one of Anderson's best kept secrets. It makes Subway's selection seem paltry, and the staff is super friendly, always interested in how to serve their customers right. Fill out an order tickets and they will keep it on file for you. I number them myself, and simply call them, and, for example, say "Hi, this is Josh Kirkwood. Please have a number 2 ready for me in 15 minutes." Anything you could want in a sandwich is here. Several kinds of everything; breads, meats, cheeses, pickles, peppers, vegetables, sauces: it's all here. AND that's not all. You can even shop here for the raw materials to make your own awesome sandwiches. Add to that, you can use EBT as well, on all cold sandwiches and groceries. This place gets 5 stars. More...
Read moreI had a Black Forest ham and corned beef on white bread (they were out of sweet bread, we came pretty late in the day) and I got some season salt on it, plus a bunch of veggies. I got it toasted. It wasn't fast like subway, but when I say this sandwich changed my life, I'm not lying. Absolutely worth the wait. The owner was super friendly and helpful, the place was clean and oh my gosh I almost cried when I got home and ate that sandwich. Definitely get the full size, you'll thank me later. I drove an hour to visit a friend but I would drive 3 hours to get that sandwich again. It was like $11 for a full sized fully loaded sandwich. I wish there was a tip option, because I would pay so much more than that for such a good sandwich. Thank you,...
