If there was a quarter of a star.. I'd check that! Yesterday afternoon my husband and I ordered.. he ordered a Chef's China Garden Special.. almost 12 dollars... there were: four shrimp, six HUGE broccoli 'stalks', runny, nasty, too salty 'gravy' (water and corn starch most likely) and there wasn't even ONE portion to the entire thing. I had Almond Boneless chicken.. same runny crappy gravy, too much salt.. the chicken INSIDE half of the breading itself was COLD, half of it was fried a LOOONG time ago.. so, having been a customer for about 10 years.. I called.
I got the owner, Tammy on the phone and was as respectful as I could be (oh, the egg rolls.. were stuffed with half cooked cabbage and cabbage 'butts'.. the part you'd throw away), the fried rice. nasty, clumps of congealed greasy rice.. like what's left in the bottom of a pan.).. and she immediately BLAMED it on 'You took too long to get here'. We live five BLOCKS away.. we TIMED ourselves to go in eight minutes.. they said 'ready in ten'. Um, I'm NOT stupid. I worked restaurants for over 15 years of my life, and when someone says 'ten minutes' it means 'You're getting what we didn't throw in the trash because we just served lunch to our victims'.
I already put review on Yelp.... so then.. I look at my bank online.. and they charged us for it. You know what? There's an unprofessional sign on their window buzzer: 'Out of order, please come in the door'. Really? Don't bother to fix that. .I think you may not need a door soon.. all bad reviews on this restaurant.. and they HATE customers.. accuse them of lying, being late, etc. You don't need our money. Disgusting! Please don't bother going here, there are two Chinese restaurants .. one right up the street from this bad one, and the other.. in Auburn, but VERY worth the drive!! There.. Tammy.. go ahead and use my almost 30 dollars.. you save a couple pennies on your trash.. I put it in mine (seriously.. inedible.. ). And now you can retire.. because my review, and my BLOG reaches thousands of people.. thousands... I seriously cannot believe you ended up charging.. but I'll try and make sure no one...
Read more1 year ago, I would have rated Tompato's a 10, but since they have moved into a new building with the China Garden, maybe a 3. A couple visits ago, I ordered a calzone, specifically asked for no banana peppers, which the waitress repeated back to me. It arrived plumb full of banana peppers & the waitress just shrugged it off...
Just got back from lunch today - what a disappointment! I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, it came out as a plain cheeseburger, with no toppings. When I asked my waitress about this, she couldn't understand what I was asking (language barrier - keep in mind they share the same store as the China Garden), but finally agreed to bring me a couple pieces of lettuce and onion. Still no bacon. After a couple bites, there was something off about the texture of the burger...I'm 99% certain that the burger was frozen, microwaved, then thrown on the grill for a minute or two to give the illusion of it being grilled. No flavor, no juices. Did I mention no bacon?
My wife LOVES the chinese food from there (she has eaten there a couple times since the move), so I guess the chinese is good to go, but I don't recommend it otherwise...hopefully they get their heads in the right place & start serving the same quality they did when Tompatos was by itself, in...
Read moreMy husband is a truck driver and he loves Shrimp Fried Rice. He travels most of the month all over the country so when he stops, I'll often Door Dash him from any Chinese Restaurant local to the truck stop he's at. On 10/4/25, we ordered from China Garden and the rice must have been something special because he made several statements. I saw it and asked him how it was because it really did look like it had A LOT of flavor. He first said "it's alright." He kept eating and then said "this is definitely one of the better ones I've had." Toward the end, he said "This is one of the best ones I've had." For him to say that def meant I needed to do a review.
He also got Shrimp and Broccoli in a spicy brown sauce, but I didn't ask him how it was. I am sure it was good though as he didn't say anything and he always tells me when the food isn't great.
I got plain Lo Mein noodles and they were good. As good as can be expected for Lo Mein without any vegies or meat. I did like that they use the real skinny noodles. I also got an order of the Veggie Spring Rolls (3). They were good as well, and they come with a little side of orange Duck/Sweet & Sour dipping sauce.
Would def order again if...
