Tough review to write as their pizza is amazing, no complaints on the food what-so-ever. The complaint comes from their handling of a large party event. We had over 50 people so we made sure to call ahead and place orders the day before.

As people were getting there, most of the staff had no idea we were coming. For those that did, they kept directing people to the party room....which held maybe 50% of the people we had coming. So after the first 10 min of people arriving, it ended up with people wandering around, looking for a seat and eventually sitting at tables in the main seating area.

The real problem came when the food started coming out. Remember, we had called to set everything up the day before. Wait staff was coming out with food, calling out family names which was actually a pretty good way to do it....if they had the names correct, orders correct, or any semblance of where anyone was in the restaurant. So many orders were incorrect or lost.

All told, my particular order was completely lost. After an hour of waiting, we asked about it and were told we weren't on the list. So we begrudgingly put in another order and started the wait again. After a half an hour of waiting, and watching most of our group finish their meals and start to leave, we decided to cancel the order. We were told it was on it's way out so we asked for it to be packaged to-go.

You could tell the stagg knew we were frustrated, yet no apologies or concessions were made, not even an outward acknowledgement that something went wrong. We payed full price for what was probably the worst managed large group event I've been part of. (which was ethically ok as we did indeed eat and drink)

Again, I love the food here, and have never had a problem as a single family, the 2 stars is a warning to anyone planning a large event here. Ultimately we probably should have been told up front that our group was larger than what they...

My buddy and I drove 40 minutes from Ames Iowa to come have dinner here at Wig and Pen. Matter fact, my 21st birthday dinner. We were not happy. We walked in. They told us about a 40 minute wait which is just fine for a Friday night so we went we went to Casey’s got a slushy. We came in when it was our time. We come in the people at the counter look confused. They Ask us what our name is, Then they don’t seat us for about another 10 minutes. After that time is up they come and get us and seat us in the back of the restaurant. Our waitress was pushy and came back about every minute to see if we are ready to order, when we clearly weren’t ready and barely sat down. She was very short and not very polite, she hadn’t checked on us at all. We had to ask a different server for napkins and Parmesan. When we approached the other server they Dismissed us and glared at us several times. In the middle of our eating she asked if we wanted a box and never ask how the food was. Then after that she never checked on us for 30 minutes. And we had to sit and wait another 20 minutes for the check, We also had to ask for more water. The service was bad enough we could’ve served ourselves. This was not an enjoyable dinner. The amount of sausage on our...

We've been coming here since their opening. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. From pizza, to sandwiches, to pasta, everything is good! Look at their online menu and see for yourself what they have to offer. My wife and I usually go for a thin crust pizza and some onion rings. My daughter prefers the Wigatoni, and my son.......well, he'll eat anything you put in front of him. So I guess he likes it all! I've tried most of the menu items and everything I've ever had was excellent. They also have a killer selection of bar drinks, and top notch service behind the bar, too. Outdoor seating is also an option, if you're so inclined to do so. Wait staff is very good, as well. In fact, i've noticed a few that have been around for quite some time now. That is always a good sign of great management and ownership. You'll usually see the owner in here working just as hard as everyone else, too. That speaks volumes to me. Finally, these guys keep a clean house. Tables are clean, bathrooms are as they should be and everything looks organized. Pass on Domino's and Pizza Hut, and come...

Sunday after church Pam suggested we head to the Wig and Pen Pizza Pub in Ankeny, as it's been quite awhile since our last visit. Pam ordered the Bruschetta which sadly they quit offering. Our server offered to check with the kitchen to see if they could make one for her which they graciously did and it was wonderful. We ended up ordering two orders of Wing Zings which are actually appetisers, (very filling appetisers) with 8 wings each, in fact so filling we had leftovers to bring home. The Wig and Pen for sure have their wing down to a science, perfect every time and consistent from one visit to the next, the same Sunday afternoon as they were two years ago. The crispiness of these wings are perfection, with the meat tender and juicy. The seasoning is contained in the batter and mildly spicy, not at all messy to eat. This is a seriously good restaurant, always top notch attentive and friendly staff.

Wig and Pen is a fantastic restaurant for great, reasonably priced food that's owned locally. I highly recommend the onion rings and breaded mushrooms. The sandwiches are fantastic and so are the burgers, but I usually go to Wig and Pen for one thing... the pizza. Wig and Pen's pizzas come in three styles, thin crust, Flying Tomato, and Chicago Style deep dish. Now, they do boast some great thin crust specialty options, but I think they excep in their Flying Tomato and Chicago Style options, the latter of which exceed anything you can get in the area in terms of Chicago Style pizza - I like capicola, Italian Sausage, and hot roasted peppers on Chicago Style, or I go straight Flying Tomato - which is also amazing. I highly recommend Wig and Pen.

A couple of friends and I visited Reiman Gardens today, first time. Stopped by Taylored Expressions for a sidewalk sale and then wanted to catch lunch. To my surprise the Wig & Pen is just down the street. I used to live in Iowa City, many years ago, and would frequent the Wig & Pen often. Best pizza ever! I don't know if the two restaurants are affiliated with each other but the pizza was just as delicious as I remember! We ordered the UNION JACK; Italian Sausage, Pepperoni, Mushroom, Onion & Sweet Italian Red Peppers. It was so very tasty and brought back a lot of scrumptious memories. And the lunch service was great And the patio looked inviting, if it wasn't 92 deg. outside. Thank you Wig & Pen!
