I have to laugh at a recent Five star review saying they had fries and a burger and how gorgeous the staff is and how beachy it is inside 😂 they don’t even have fries there and there is absolutely zero “beachy” in Slims. 😂
Third time trying to eat here. First two attempts they closed early. First attempt, the barmaid yelled over at us before we were all inside the door THE KITCHEN IS CLOSED, WE’RE JUST DRINKING NOW. It was almost an hour earlier than the posted hours said. Second attempt, we went back a day later an hour and a fifteen mins before kitchen closed, waitress said “we’re still serving but hurry up and get your orders in.’” Um, no, I’m not hurrying up…
I don’t know why we even made the third attempt….the place is small, they don’t have a full bar, just beer and cheap wines, and it’s dark and not welcoming, nothing special in a strip mall.
Unfortunately, the third attempt we were successful in getting in. The wings were atrocious, the worst I’ve ever had. They served them without separating the wingettes from drum, whole. Who does that? How lazy that they can’t even bother to run a knife through and separate them. Even worse, they were undercooked and flabby - and we had asked for well done. They also didn’t put any sauce on them. Sent them back. The “Philly” Soft pretzel was a frozen defrosted super pretzel. Ridiculous. You can get a way better pretzel at the checkout counter at WaWa for 2 bucks. Philadelphia is known for its soft pretzels and these did Philly dirty. If you’re gonna use the Philadelphia connection, at least get a decent pretzel. The burgers tasted heavily like an unclean gas grill, and the burgers were dripping the black greasy residue. It was just gross. The fried egg on top was overcooked like a scrambled egg. It cost $25. They didn’t have fries, only tater tots, and it’s hard to mess them up. We’re from Philly. My family had a very busy pizza/hoagie shop for 25 years. This was a disgrace to Philly. Apparently from what the waitress told us, the owner isn’t much involved anymore. They’re def riding on the Philly connection. This place has nothing to do with Philly except the name and some signs. Also, their ATM doesn’t work/out of service.
Looking at other recent reviews here, they have some people running it now who don’t understand or care about customer service and how to talk to people. Woman yelling across the room AT people who are trying to patronize the business, and the kitchen guy glaring out at you when you send back the food that was prepared wrong - is everything you need to know. Avoid this place. Way better options around where they actually want to serve you some food.

Read moreWe vacationed for a week at Anna Maria Island and cooked at home every night except for our last night, because of covid-19. We chose Slim's because of the menu. We went early to avoid the 4th of July crowd, arriving at the restaurant between 4 and 5pm. No customers were in the restaurant when we arrived. The waitress came right over bringing regular menus along with the "specials" menu. We had already pretty much decided what we wanted before we went, but the cheeseburger with one side was the special for that Saturday at $10.95 (it was even posted inside the restaurant on a board, along with all the other daily specials for the entire week). So we all changed our minds and ordered the cheeseburger special, with the exception of my daughter - she ordered what she had picked out earlier. The food came out quickly and was delicious!! The waitress came out later with the bill and we were surprised to see that we didn't get the "cheeseburger special" price. We brought it to her attention and she made up every excuse in the book for us NOT to get the special. I had her bring the paper back to me, and I STILL do not understand why we had to pay full price. The 20% tip was already added into the bill as well. Bad customer service is a huge pet peeve of mine. As a previous store manager, I would have given the customer the "special" price. If it had not been an option, for whatever reason, then she shouldn't have brought the menus out with the regular menus and there would not have been any confusion. I have a copy of both the menu and the receipt and will post pics in other social media outlets that will...
Read moreWe came here with a group of 8 as we are staying right down the street and the food looked good. They only have one larger table (that seats 6) and it was taken. When we told the server we had 8, she made a comment “divide and conquer” and walks away. So my husband, who used to be a very successful server back in his younger years, goes to move two tables together when she rushed back over and scolds him. “You can’t move tables, it says so right there” and points to a sign on the wall.
It was moreso how she went about it. Had she explained up front, and said more than “divide and conquer”, we may have felt better going into it. We still think this is a dumb rule. Especially since when we were there it wasn’t really busy. So be aware that if you have a party of more than 4, you will likely not be able to sit together.
The food way ok. I had wings and the sauce (Thai chili) was good but they were a bit overcooked and dry. My daughter’s burger was a bit burnt on the outside of the patty. My mother in laws lobster mac and cheese was really good according to her.
If we were to ever return, it would likely be just to...
