Sushi Ramen Anna Maria — Restaurant in Anna Maria island

I am really astonished that the first 23 reviews of this restaurant gave it five stars. I desperately wanted this place to be great because Anna Maria Island is an Asian food desert. Unfortunately, the situation has not changed with the addition of this venue. We went on a Tuesday night and the place was full but the bar was open so we sat there. We ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen, steamed shumai, garden salad, and a tempura shrimp roll. They only had one server working, and the poor girl was working very hard to keep up with everything. She was sweet and I felt bad for her. The sushi chefs were fine but a bit slow which was not helping the situation. The steamed shrimp shumai came out first. It was mushy and tasteless. Seriously we could’ve gotten better frozen shumai and heated up in the microwave at home. Next came the pitiful garden salad with ginger dressing. It was iceberg lettuce poorly cut with a few shreds of carrot and two pieces of cucumber with a small unappetizing dollop of ginger dressing. The shrimp tempura roll was decent. Finally, after waiting for 15 minutes more, we inquired about the whereabouts of our Ramen. We think they must’ve forgotten it. It came out five minutes later and was just OK. Nothing to write home about and fairly small. Will say the pork was very good. The egg was disappointing as it was just a normal boiled egg as opposed to the kind you would normally get in a good Ramen soup. My conclusion is that Mitaka remains the best sushi/ramen within striking distance of the island. They deliver to the island via DoorDash and are located next to the Fresh Market on Manatee Avenue. I gotta say, came here with low expectations due to the hurricane damaged. I totally underestimated this is establishment. In the wake of the destruction while everything else was closed, this establishment delivered top notch service and food. I brought my family for Christmas Day dinner. It was the most pleasurable experience, the staff was great, food was great. This could possibly be a new family tradition. Our server, May , was so accommodating and so generous with her time and attention to detail. I really can’t say enough good things about the service. The food: holy smokes!!!! I’ve traveled around, I can say with confidence that the food here is a notch above what you’re used to. Being from Palm Beach, I have a high expectation with quality of food. DO NOT GO HERE. I am raging through my phone right now. We got there at 7:20 for our reservation and FINALLY got served an hour later and we ordered right away. The wait aged me 50 years. When we got the food it was honestly mediocre and NOT worth the wait in the slightest. And to top it all of, the food was SO EXPENSIVE. They added a 20% tip and then ASKED for an additional tip when I wouldn’t have ever added the 20%. I ordered cucumber salad which wasn’t even good and then a brown sugar boba which the boba was digusting and looked like small chunks of dook. And lastly ramen which was the only thing that was okay, and that’s stretching it. My friend even had to resort to eating SOY SAUCE because the food was taking so long and we were starving.
